CPP PC for Ho Central warns of electoral disputes

Ho, Oct. 21, GNA- Mr Michael Kosi Dedey, Parliamentary Candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP) for Ho Central Constituency, said on Wednesday that the apathy demonstrated by the electorate, towards the recent exhibition of the Provisional Voters' Register could be the source of electoral disputes during the December 7 polls. He explained that the indifference exhibited by some eligible voters in correcting discrepancies on the Register could disenfranchise many of them and could cause trouble.

Mr Dedey, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, noted that the apathy was counter-productive to the country's fledging democracy.

He, however, admitted that people were disillusioned about unfulfilled electoral promises by successive governments. Mr Dedey exhorted the media to be proactive in playing its watchdog role by challenging politicians on some of the vague promises they made on political platforms.

He urged the National Commission on Civic Education to embark on pragmatic educational programmes to sensitise the citizenry on their civic responsibilities.

Mr Dedey appealed to the political pressure groups to emphasise the need for all the candidates in Election 2004 to dwell on issues during their electioneering campaigns.
