The Electoral Commission has rejected claims by Chairman of the National Peace Council Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante that the council was not consulted prior to the appointment of Francis Azumah to EC’s Steering Committee.

Speaking to host of Ghana Dadwen, Bright Kwesi Asempa on Onua 95.1, the Acting Director of Public Affairs of the Electoral Commission, Christian Owusu-Parry maintained that the EC wrote to the National Peace Council on 11th November 2015 to request one person from the council to be on the committee.

According to information gleaned from a letter in possession of Mr. Owusu-Parry at the EC, the council replied the EC on 19th November 2015 and signed by Director CDO, Janet Sani Kumah.

The letter acknowledged receipt of the letter from EC and nominated Mr Francis Azumah to represent the council on the committee.

The letter went on to describe Mr. Azumah as the Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council who will bring a lot of experience to bear as a member of the committee.

The EC therefore expressed surprise as to why Rev. Prof Emmanuel Asante did not check from his colleagues before speaking on the appointment of Mr. Francis Azumah on the steering committee.

“I am surprised the Chairman of the National Peace Council will say that he was not aware of our letter, we have written to them as far back as last year,” Mr. Parry said.
