Avoid needless interference in the electoral process - IGP tells Police

Mr. John Kudalor, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has urged Police personnel to be conversant with electoral laws to be able to isolate breaches and deal with them accordingly.

This, he said would avoid uncalled for interference in the electoral process intervene at the polling stations and collation centres, the IGP said.

He said that the presiding officers and polling agents were in charge of the centres and would only request the Police to intervene in an issue when necessary.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Kudalor was speaking at a durbar with the personnel of the Brong­Ahafo Regional Police Command at Abesim near Sunyani.

The IGP and his entourage had already visited the Upper West, Upper East, and Northern Regions as part of his nationwide working visit to the 10 Regions to acquaint himself with the preparations of the Commands towards the Election 2016.

COP Kudalor charged personnel to be very professional in maintaining law and order for peace and harmony to prevail in the country and added that it was their duty to ensure that all eligible voters were well protected to cast their votes peacefully without fear of intimidation during the November 7 polls.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Maxwell Atingane, Brong­Ahafo Regional Police Commander said District Security Task forces had been formed to promote peace in the Region.

DCOP Atingane said the Command had taken delivery of 23 motorbikes for distribution to the patrol teams to intensify patrols in the region and therefore urged the general public to be law­ abiding to augment the
work of the Police for a just and peaceful society.
