Asubonteng picks parliamentary nomination forms

Mr. Gordon Asubonteng, the Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has picked nomination forms to contest the upcoming Dormaa Central Parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Election 2016.

Mr. Asubonteng’s decision, brings it three the number of candidates who have picked forms to file for election on November 7, to contest the Dormaa Central seat as the Parliamentary candidate of the NDC.

His two other contenders are Professor Kwame Agyenim Boateng, a lecturer at the Sunyani Polytechnic, and John Jack, a businessman, who have both contested the primaries twice unsuccessfully.

The Constituency has been won twice by the NDC in the 1992 and1996 general elections, but since election 2000 to date, it has been one of the strongholds of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Prior to picking the forms at the Party’s office at Dormaa-Ahenkro, Mr. Asubonteng had led a procession of supporters and sympathizers, including chiefs and party executives from his residence through some principal streets of Dormaa-Ahenkro, amidst brass band music, drumming and dancing.

The procession slowed down traffic and attracted the attention of on-lookers who stood by the road side, despite the fact that there were some few security personnel on hand to direct vehicular movement.

Presenting the forms to him, Mr. Mark Kyeremeh, the Dormaa Central Constituency Secretary of the NDC, took Mr. Asubonteng through the processes required of candidates to observe in picking and filing of nomination forms.

According to the Party’s rules and guidelines governing the primaries, a candidate must pay GH?1,000.00 before picking the nomination forms, and a filing fee of GH?10,000.00 which is to be paid into the Party’s account in a specified bank on a later date.

Mr. Kyeremeh cautioned the supporters and candidates against embarking on campaigns that would divide their front to derail their bid to unseat the NPP in the next elections.

Addressing the supporters after receiving the forms, Mr. Asubonteng appealed to the delegates to vote for a candidate who would see to the development of the constituency and the country.

He promised to abide by the rules and regulations set out by the Party to ensure its unity, and therefore appealed to the executives to work extra hard to inform and educate the electorate on the achievements of the government.
