Assin MCE rejected again

Attempt by President John Dramani Mahama to force the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Assin Central, Alex Antwi Boasiako, on the people of the area, has backfired again.

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE on Tuesday indicates that the MCE who was rejected by the assembly members some months ago, had been rejected again by the assembly during another confirmation ceremony at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.

Mr Boasiako was among the seven District, Municipal and Metropolitan Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who were earlier nominated by President for the region.

Mr Boasiako polled 18 votes as against 47 in his first election, a situation which compelled him to be rejected totally since he was not able to secure 2/3 of the total votes cast as the constitution demands.

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE had it that the assembly members who were expecting a new person to be nominated were later informed that the President had re-nominated the rejected candidate for the second time, making the assembly members angry.

Drama unfolded at the place when Mr Boasiako was given another red card by the assembly members since he had 25 votes as against the 47 of the assembly members present.

DAILY GUIDE can state that 14 government appointees were earlier inaugurated to help him get the nod.

The election was supervised by the Electoral Commission Officer and re-election would be held for him in the next 10 days.

The next election adds up to three of the confirmation ceremony held for him alone in the area.

DAILY GUIDE had it that the Central Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong and his deputy, Madam Queenstar Pokuah Sawyer as well as some gurus of the party attended the ceremony.

Mr Sarpong in his address charged the assembly members to vote for Mr Boasiako since the absence of the MCE was retarding the development of the area.

DAILY GUIDE can state that all the assembly members left the place immediately after voting, due to the threats they had received if they do not vote for the MCE. DAILY GUIDE can confirm that there was heavy security presence at the place as there was combined police officers from Assin Fosu and Cape Coast as well as two military officers who were there to ensure total peace.
