Aspiring Assembly Members gear up campaign in Savelugu

Savelugu (N/R), Nov. 25, GNA-Aspirants for the upcoming District Assembly Elections in the Savelugu/Nanton District had geared up their campaigns as election day draws closer.

At a platform to launch their manifestos in Savelugu in the Savelugu/Nanton District on Thursday, Madam Mariam Adam Kadire, Gender Officer for Ghana Friendship Group of Denmark(GDCA), told the gathering that the organisation had mounted the platform for members to outline their plans for the people.

She said the group was implementing the programme to ensure that elections were conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner. Madam Kadire noted that the organisers were also using the platform to promote peace and healthy competition among the aspirants. Mr. Abass Bawa, Senior Civic Education Officer of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), urged the communities to elect women into leadership positions to ensure the development of a balance society adding, "Women must also pull their weight".

He also called on the people to come out in their numbers to vote come 28th December and apathetic towards the District Assembly Elections. The Chief of Kpaliyogu in the Savelugu/Nanton district, Na Mahamadu Abdulair, pledged his support for the upcoming elections. Some aspirants including Memunatu Mahama and Alhassan Abdul-Rahman of Kpaliyogu Electoral Area took turns to address the gathering on their plans the areas.

As part of the its contribution to grassroots democracy, the Ghana Community Developing Association (GDCA) had mounted the campaign platform for the aspirants. 25 Nov.10
