Ashanti NDC denounces political spin on prosecution

Kumasi, March 30, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Executive of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has denounced what they say is the disingenuous attempt to give political spin to the prosecution of some former Government officials.

A statement issued in Kumasi and signed by Mr Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, the Regional Chairman, said "we find this completely distasteful, unacceptable and dishonourable."

The party was reacting to a publication in the Chronicle's front page headline story of Tuesday March 30, captioned "We Shall Jail Kufuor's Men" and attributed it to the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu.

The Minister was reported to have said this at a meeting of the NDC held at the Salisburg Hotel in Kumasi.

It said the timing of the publication to coincide with the first appearance in court of the ex-government appointees should leave no one in doubt that there is a ploy to politicize what is a purely legitimate and credible prosecution.

The Minister together with former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings is in Ashanti taking part in an NDC political outreach programme. ..

The party denied the publication, insisting that what the Minister told the meeting was taken out of context.

It said Mrs Mould-Iddrisu explained to the party members the processes of prosecution and the fact that diligent investigations had to be made.
