Arrest NDC Chairman

Concerned NPP Youth of Ashanti has requested for the immediate arrest of Yaw Obimpeh, Ashanti regional chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to the group, the NDC capo would be of immense help in the investigations of police of the recent bank robbery which occurred at Fumesua.

They added that Mr. Obimpeh, by his recent utterances, seemed to know much about criminals, so he could be an asset to the police in their fight against crime.

Mr. Obimpeh caused a stir recently when he openly said on radio that a suspected bank robber, Mijinma, who is in police custody, is his brother.

The police arrested Mijinma at the crime scene at Fumesua where some suspected armed robbers attacked a bank to ransack cash.

One of the suspected robbers was shot dead at the crime scene while Mijinma was arrested by the police.

But since Mijinma’s arrest, Mr. Obimpeh had been speaking on several radio stations in Kumasi, saying Mijinma is innocent.

The NDC chairman disclosed that he rushed to the Central Police Station on the day of Mijinma’s arrest to get him bailed.

This action by the NDC Chairman, according to Moro Kabore, convener of the Concerned NPP Youth of Ashanti, was weird and shocking.

According to him, since Mijinma was arrested at a crime scene with a gun, it would be prudent for the NDC chairman to allow the police to do their work.

He said his group considered Mr. Obimpeh’s action as an attempt to use his position to intimidate the police as they investigate Mijinma.

Kabore added that, “Mr. Obimpeh wants to unduly meddle in investigations and possibly skew the findings of the police in his favour.”

He observed that Mr. Obimpeh was noted for openly supporting people arrested for committing heinous crimes, saying they were tired of the NDC capo’s behaviour.

Kabore said about Mr. Obimpeh: “His open support for and promotion for persons who are allegedly involved in heinous crimes would not be countenanced.”

He commended the Ashanti Regional Police Command for their act of bravery which led to the arrest of Mijinma, urging the police to sustain its good works.

Kabore, however, reiterated his appeal to the police, as a matter of alacrity, to arrest Mr. Obimpeh to aid in their investigations.

He said “by his conduct, we are convinced he will be of immense help to the police in finding lasting solutions to the many security threats in the region.”
