Another NDC group attack minister

The Ashanti regional minister Dr. Samuel Sarpong seem to have incurred the wrath of several groups and individuals within the NDC in Ashanti region.
The students’ wing of the NDC a few days ago took a heavy swing at him when they asked the President to sack him from office for several reasons culminating into what they termed “ineptitude”.
Just when the dust is beginning to settle, another NDC group; Coalition of Zongo Youth in the Ashanti region has rattled the hornet’s nest. They are also asking the minister to “go”.
In a statement issued Wednesday, and signed by the group’s spokesman Abass Nurudeen, the group accused Dr. Sarpong of sponsoring a group of communicators samuel-sarpongwho “continuously spew insults on the regional party chairman and other government functionaries on radio”.
“We will not sit down while the Minister destroys our party for us. The regional chairman, Yaw Obimpeh is the head of the party and we will do all within our means to protect the party and the chairman.Samuel Sarpong is a liability to the NDC in Ashanti. His bad human relation towards party members is glaring.”
The group also accused the Minister of aiding the NPP chairman and some radio personalities within the region “in their activities for reasons that cannot be ascertained”.
“Is it not also surprising that whenever members of NDC call for the dismissal of Hon Sarpong, it is mainly members and sympathizers of the NPP and their media appendages who rise to his defense?”
The group accused the regional minister of being involved in illegal mining in the region and aiding the regional NPP chairman when the Anti-Galamsey taskforce confiscated his equipment.
The group wants the President and the National Executive of the party to “investigate and ascertain the truth behind the secret plot being hutched by Hon Sarpong and some NPP functionaries in the region” and sack him since his presence as regional minister according to them will cost the NDC the upcoming elections.

COALITION OF ZONGO YOUTH
ASHANTI REGION - NDC

Press Statement 4th February, 2015

SAMUEL SARPONG IS THE PROBLEM IN ASHANTI REGION; HE MUST GO

We have observed and listened with keen interest, the current state of affairs in NDC in Ashanti region, and we wholly support the call to dismiss the Ashanti Regional minister.

The double standard of Hon Sarpong has reached its crescendo and therefore his continuous stay in office will be injurious to the objective of the party in the 2016 elections.

The group that continuously spews insults on the regional party chairman and other government functionaries on radio are sponsored by the regional minister but he comes out after every statement to deceitfully distance himself from them.

We will not sit down while the Minister destroys our party for us. The regional chairman, Yaw Obimpeh is the head of the party and we will do all within our means to protect the party and the chairman.

Samuel Sarpong is a liability to the NDC in Ashanti. His bad human relation towards party members is glaring.

Our intelligence have revealed that the regional minister is aiding the NPP chairman and some radio personalities in Ashanti region in their activities for reasons that cannot be ascertained.

Does it not astonish for the regional minister, Hon Sarpong to offer appropriate support to NPP members who are engaged in illegal mining?

Is it not also surprising that whenever members of NDC call for the dismissal of Hon Sarpong, it is mainly members and sympathizers of the NPP and their media appendages who rise to his defense?

Our intelligence revealed the regional NPP chairman and some pro-NPP journalists in the region who are doing everything within their means to project the image of the regional minister is part of a clandestine scheme aimed at canvassing support for the vice presidential bid for the regional minister in election 2016. This surely confirms the self centered nature of Hon Sarpong as expressed by most party faithful.

We anticipated the regional minister to act with some level of alacrity when the excavators and other machines belonging to the regional NPP chairman were confiscated by the anti galamsey taskforce for engaging in illegal mining.

To our amazement, Hon Sarpong ordered for the immediate release of the confiscated items belonging to the NPP regional chairman, Wontumi without paying the appropriate fines.

We find it difficult to comprehend what the regional minister seeks to achieve by abandoning his comrades and embracing his foes.

The leadership and members of the Coalition of Zongo Youth are pleading on His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to terminate the appointment of Hon Sarpong to bring lasting peace to the party in the region.

This would rejuvenate members of the party especially those from the Zongo to work harder for the party to achieve its objectives of one million votes in the Ashanti region.

The group is also calling on the president and the National Executive Committee to investigate and ascertain the truth behind the secret plot being hutched by Hon Sarpong and some NPP functionaries in the region.

Signed.
