Campaign alone not enough for winning elections

Kumasi, July 17, GNA- A top member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said electioneering campaign alone was not enough for the party to win the 2004 general election.

He said the campaign should be backed by the selection and training of committed party members to act as polling agents on the elections day.

Mr Emmanuel Nti-Fordjour, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, said it was important for the party to "select and train only loyal members as agents in readiness for the 2004 general elections." Mr Nti-Fordjour was speaking at a one-day seminar organised by the women's wing of the Bantama constituency of the party for its ward women's organisers in Kumasi.

The seminar, which had the theme: "Election 2004, the role of women", was designed to sharpen the organisational potentials of the women ward organisers.

He said the NDC lost the 2000 elections not because it did not carry out any massive campaigns and that lack of adequate and loyal polling agents in many of the polling stations was one of the causes. Nana Yaa Boakyewaa, Regional Women's Organiser of the Bantama constituency, advised the ward organisers to justify their positions by working relentlessly to win more women to the party.
