Akufo-Addo still practicing old politics – Kwakye Ofosu

A deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says he still finds it very difficult to believe why the flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has not changed his way of doing politics when there are more innovative ways.

According to him, the NPP leader has over the years resorted to telling lies on any platform he gets with the aim of wooing voters to his party but failed to realize that such approach has not yielded any fruit; hence, his continues stay in opposition.

“Nana Addo is a conventional politician. He uses the old ways of doing politics. Nothing new comes out of his politics. There is no innovation”.

“If his propagandists led by Nana Akomeah writes something and puts before him, he just reads without even cross checking his facts. All the time when he comes out to say something and you do a follow up to crosscheck the facts, you realize that whatever he says are all lies put together for him to read”, he noted.

The deputy Communications Minister speaking on Accra-based Okay FM, Monday, was reacting to Akufo-Addo’s statement he delivered at an NPP branch meeting in Paris on Saturday, May 28, 2016.

The opposition leader during the said meeting with party members and sympathizers accused President Mahama of mismanaging to the Ghanaian economy to the extent that the West African nation now imports plantain from neighbouring La Cote d’Ivoire.

“When Kufuor was leaving office in 2008, the food import bill for our country was $600 million. Mills and Mahama criticized Kufuor for his performance and they promised to reduce it. Last year, the food import bill of our country was $1.5 billion. We are now importing plantain into Ghana! Agriculture, which in Kufuor’s last year was growing at 7.4%; this last year was 0.04%. These are the facts about Ghana, they are not my inventions. You look at the official and budget statistics, you’ll find it there,” he said.

Kwaakye Ofosu commenting further said he was expecting the NPP leader to have provided his audience with alternative policies to address the challenges confronting the country but to his dismay, Nana Akufo-Addo “as usual resorted to the old ways of doing politics”.

“I have realized that all the time when he (Nana Akufo-Addo) is going to speak, he doesn’t do any research. He only relies on what his party officials put before him to read. Recently when he traveled to Amsterdam, he told the Ghanaian community that government has spent US$10million to print diaries knowing very will that what he said wasn’t the truth”.

“At another platform, he told the people that the cost of the Ridge Hospital facility has been infiltrated which wasn’t the truth. If he takes his time to do a little research on the given topics that are put before him to speak on, he will realize that all that he has been saying are lies”.

“You can’t just rely on scanty information to discuss about a particular sector. Once you do that you are conventional politician. It is holistic view. You have to look at all the things happening in the Agricultural sector to make projections and then put out alternative measures to address issues confronting that sector”.

“What he is doing is just ‘Mallam Atta’ politics. Candidates aspiring to be president don’t have to engage themselves in this kind of politics,” he noted.
