Akufo-Addo’s fame brought Afoko to power - Agyarko

The Campaign Manager for Nana Akufo-Addo in the NPP’s flagbearership race, Boakye Agyarko has alleged that the party’s national chairman and general secretary rode on the popularity of the two-time presidential candidate to win their executive positions.

“Paul Afoko told delegates to vote for him so he could make Akufo-Addo president. I can tell you that Kwabena Agyepong (general secretary) and the Chairman campaigned on the strength of Akufo-Addo’s secretary,” he told Accra-based Oman FM, Tuesday.

The former attorney general who garnered more than 80% of votes in a super delegates congress held on Sunday must beat the three others candidates including the former Ghana ambassador to the US Alan Kyeremanten, in October to emerge flagbearer for the opposition party for the third time.

Agyarko said the two national executives would have lost their positions if the delegates had perceived them to be against the former foreign Affairs minister.

“Nana Addo is very popular and I can tell you that anybody who has power in our party someway somehow benefited from the popularity and the acceptability of Akufo-Addo,” he noted.
