Akufo-Addo man fires NPP elders

Brigadier General (Rtd) Joseph Odei, a leading member of the Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo faction in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has accused the Party’s Council of Elders of allegedly behaving like ostriches.

In an article published in the June 11, 2014 edition of the Daily Guide Newspaper (page 28 to be precise) headed “The Threat To NPP Victory In 2016” he said, even though the NPP is endowed with intelligent people, solutions to simple problems seem so difficult to find as the practice of democracy is always exploited to some ridiculous end, making “nonsense” of the acclaimed intellectual capacity of the party.

According to him, the existence of the party’s respected elders has only become a mere embodiment, since they have no influence on the course of recent developments which seem to be destroying the party, having people adopting the wait and watch attitude.

According to the retired General, Consensus-building, an important political tool, is being ignored as the party is drifting towards “the law of the jungle” (and in this case) those who are financially endowed are doing their own thing”.

“Consensus may be defined as an acceptable resolution, one that can be supported, even though it may not be the opinion that everyone in a group agrees with," he pointed out.

Brigadier General Joseph Odei (Rtd), also lament that, instead of spending huge monies to organize a presidential congress, such funds should rather be channeled into the main 2016 elections; in that, it is more than obvious that even before the contest, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has won.

“Yes, my heart aches because the little financial resources that will come our way may be used on an issue, which to me has already been decided by the Ghanaian voter for the party.

Our presidential primaries of late have been a source of worry to many supporters of the party because it tends to divide the party’s front instead of uniting to choose a leader-the resignation of a candidate in 2008 presidential race after the primary bear testimony to this fact”.

In a typical “Yen tie obiaa” faction and does not care a hoot as to why his statements above will be received by his boss’ internal political opponents; the retired General stated that “as a soldier politician, my earlier profession taught me not to call a goat a white cow, but spade a spade; hence this piece, which I know will draw some unpleasant comments from those who think otherwise but I believe I am entitled to my opinion”.
