Akufo-Addo and his government want to remove ‘fearless’ Domelevo – Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia has accused President Akufo-Addo and his government of being involved in a sinister plot to remove the Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo from office for his uncompromising fight against corruption.

The NDC contends that investigations by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) into alleged procurement breaches by the Ghana Audit Service which has resulted in the arrest and granting of bail to Mr Domelevo is an orchestrated attempt to silence and subsequently oust the much-praised Auditor General.

“What is being presented as a routine investigation into allegations of wrongdoing is, in fact, an attempt to gag the Auditor-General and subsequently remove him from office because of his uncompromising stance in the fight against corruption. Put more accurately, this EOCO investigation is designed as retribution against Mr Dumelevo because he has been on the tail of Yaw Osafo Maafo over the latter’s involvement in the massive corruption scandal under which $ 1 million was paid to Kroll Associates, a UK company for no work done,” Johnson Asiedu Nketia, NDC General Secretary argued in a press conference last Monday.

The Kroll Associates scandal involved the award of a contract by the government to Kroll Associates on the orders of the Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo with prior approval by the Public Procurement Authority and the payment of monies to Kill Associates without evidence of work done, according to the Auditor-General.

The Senior Minister has been subsequently surcharged for the payment because of the lack of proof of work by Kroll Associates for which it received the payment.

The NDC is therefore of the firm belief that the Senior Minister and the Chairman of the Board of the Audit Service are cahoots to see Mr Domelevo out of his office.

“It is worthy of note that Yaw Osafo Maafo and Prof. Edward Duah Agyemang, Chairman of the Audit Service Board, who previously constituted a Cabinet Sub-Committee to investigate the NDC administration are collaborating to see to the removal of Mr Daniel Yaw Domelevo because he has resisted direct interference with his audit work which is constitutionally insulated from such interferences,” Mr Asiedu Nketia added.
