Akufo-Addo and NPP must campaign for compulsory education

The Progressive People's Party (PPP) wishes to congratulate the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the process to elect a presidential candidate for the 2016 elections. We also congratulate Nana Akufo-Addo for winning the NPP primaries to become the party's presidential candidate. The elections confirm the fact that Ghana has chosen the ballot box as the way to choose our political leaders.

The NPP should take time to address the allegations that cropped up during the campaigning period about intimidation of supporters of opposing candidates, the use of money to influence the choices of voters and the "bad blood" between the winning candidate and his handlers on one hand, and key members of the party's national executive on the other hand. As we all know, it is one thing to win internal elections and another to win a national election.

We wish to ask the NPP and its presidential candidate to join the PPP to advocate for change in our country, Ghana. They should join us to advocate for:

1. Implementation of free, compulsory basic education (FCUBE) and its extension to cover senior high school education

2. Election of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives without the interference of the President

3. The separation of the Ministry of Justice from the Office of Attorney-General

4. Electoral reforms including the use of electronic voting and abolishing the use of polling agents.

5. The use of the state's purchasing power to support local businesses

The PPP believes that we must all join hands to stop the creating, looting and sharing of our tax money. Nana Akufo-Addo should seize the moral high ground and condemn the use of State's resources to fund the political campaign of political parties in government. This has caused the current economic hardship from which all of us are suffering.

The NPP should be wide Awake and support the PPP.
