Akufo-Addo, Alan lead in race

Six names have popped up as those to look out for in the race for who leads the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to contest the 2008 polls. Out of the six, however, two names were prominent.

A sampled opinion survey conducted by Sunday World’s team last Friday at the Mid-Year Review Conference of District Chiefs in the 138 district of the country, showed that many DCEs think that the six aspirants are well positioned to slug it out in the December.

Reports filed by our men on the ground at Akim Oda in the Eastern region where the meeting was held said the meeting was well attended.

The DCEs are very certain that there will not be a second round but a one-touch first round outright winner.

The six names out of the 18 or 19 aspirants are: Nana Akufo-Addo, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Alan Kyerematen, Minster of Trade, Industries and Presidential Special Initiatives (PSIs), Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Vice President, Hon. Osafo Maafo, former Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and Mr. Dan Botwe, former General Secretary of the NPP.

The two names that featured throughout were Nana Akufo-Addo and Mr. Alan Kyerematen.

This sample notwithstanding, the fine thread that runs through is the fact that the DCEs pledge to support whoever emerges as the winner. They acknowledged the strengths of some of the aspirants and the political clutch they wield and will full support the winner.

Two widows fight over Danny Ofori-Atta’s multi-million dollar property

One of the widows of the late politician and businessman Danny Ofori-Atta has filed an Order of Injunction at an Accra High Court to restrain the head of family of Danny Ofori-Atta and his agents from entering into or interfering with the plaintiff’s ownership and possession of the Danny’s property.

The plaintiff is Mrs. Margaret Ofori-Atta while the head of the Ofori-Atta family is Mr. Sintim Aboagye.

The said property is situated at No. 103 Mabey, Haatso in Accra. It is a 3-storey building with a swimming pool, Tennis court, a Staple for horses, and a chapel.

Danny Ofori-Atta was the running mate of Dr. Edward Mahama of the People’s National Convention in the 2004 Elections after the EGLE and PNC entered into an electoral alliance.

The writ was filed on 26th June 2007 at an Accra High court. It is presided over by Mrs. Inkumsah Abban.

No sooner had the writ been filed than another widow Mrs. Theresa Borley Boye Ofori –Atta comes up to file a counter writ. She wants a declaration from the court that the second marriage with Danny Ofori Atta is void.

According to her she (Theresa Borley Boye) were lawfully married under Ordinance as far back as 29th December 1984.

She claimed that Margaret was her seamstress, who sewed her wedding gown and dressed her up for the wedding and partook of all the ceremonies of the wedding at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Accra.

Theresa claimed that after the wedding she gave her wedding gown to her (Margaret) to take to the laundry. Since then she has never set eye on the gown again. She believes her wedding gown is with Margaret.

Now barely six months into the marriage between Danny Ofori-Atta and Theresa Borley Boye, the marriage became estranged and before she knew it her husband was dating Margaret. According to her Margaret started using the Benz car which was using before their marriage was estranged.

Theresa also claimed that after a while her husband moved out of the house but was still remitting her.

Meanwhile Mr. Sintim Aboagye, head of family of the late Danny Ofori-Atta has also filed an Affidavit in Opposition.

He states that Margaret Ofori-Atta is not the legitimate and customary wife of Danny Ofori-Atta.

“That being the customary head of the family I know for a fact that the plaintiff in the matter is not the widow of the deceased but rather Theresa Borley Boye Ofori Atta”, he claimed.

The burial of the late Danny Ofori-Atta will be buried on 11th August 2007. But there is the likelihood that of an injunction restraining the burial because the court will have to come out clearly about who is the widow. In Akan custom the widow performs the burial and funeral of her husband.

Mrs. Theresa Danny Ofori –Atta and family members of the deceased are represented by Mr. Kwame Acheampong Boateng of K-Archy & Co chambers while Mrs. Margaret Ofori-Atta is represented by Mr. Kizito Beyuo of Tetteh & Co chambers.
