Founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor has waded into the controversy of the compilation of a new register for the 2020 elections.

She said the Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa should simply be allowed to do her job.

Speaking to Kumasi-based Akoma FM on Saturday, February 1, Akua Donkor said the reasons adduced by the political parties against the decision to compile a new biometric voters’ register are not tenable.

She said what the country wants is a free and fair elections, which the Commission has assured a new register will guarantee.

“Those who said the timing is wrong cannot say that,” Madam Akua Donkor said in Akan.

“Even Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan used 40 days to compile a new register, why can’t this current Commission?” she quizzed.

On the issue about the expenditure, the GFP leader cited how the immediate past Chair of the Commission, Charlotte Osei, “destroyed” the original logo of the EC and “wasted” money to change it and “she is walking free”.

“Everybody should allow Jean Mensa to work because what she wants to do will help all and sundry,” the former Assembly member for Heman in the Ashanti Region said.

“Mrs Mensa has done nothing wrong and you know me, if she has [has done anything wrong] I would have been the first to voice it.”

She encouraged the Chair of the Commission to be steadfast and believe in God to prosecute her good intentions for mother Ghana.
