Ahiadzro rescinds decision to resign as CPP VR Chairman.

Ho, Mar 20, GNA- Mr Prince Ahiadzro, who recently resigned as Volta Regional Chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP) and also quit politics says he has rescinded his decision.

A letter dated March 19 this year, addressed to the CPP National Chairman and also copied to the press said he changed his mind after a "meticulous consideration of all appeals," including those from the National Chairman, constituency Executives, party activists and friends.

However a press release by the Volta Regional Steering Committee of the CPP dated March 18 this year said Mr Ahiadzro's resignation had been accepted.

Mr Elikem Kotoku, Regional Treasurer of the CPP told the Ghana News Agency on telephone that the Executive Committee was not aware of Mr Ahiadzro's decision to go back on his earlier decision to resign. He said on the basis of Mr Ahiadzro's notice of resignation the Steering Committee met last weekend to fill vacant positions on the Regional Executive Committee.

At its meeting, the Steering Committee made Mr S. Simon Sakyi First Regional Vice-Chairman, the acting Chairman in place of Mr Ahiadzro and Mr Kotoku was given an additional responsibility as acting First Regional Vice-Chairman.

Attached to Mr Ahiadzro's letter rescinding his decision to resign was a resolution titled, "CPP, Volta Region- We Say No to Regional Chairman's Resignation," signed by 90 constituency executives from 20 of the 22 constituencies in the region.

When the GNA contacted Mr Ahiadzro on telephone he said the decision to accept or not to accept his resignation rested with the National Chairman of the party and not the Regional Executive Committee. He said his letters of resignation and decision to return to the post were served on Mr Adjetey Sowah, as Regional Secretary whose duty it was to pass it on to the Regional Executive. Mr Ahiadzro said "the people who put me there have spoken, they want me back and I was unable to refuse their pleas".
