CUA is determined to fight poverty

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A) Nov. 7, GNA- Mr Emmanuel Oduro-Darko, General Manager of Ghana Cooperative Credit Union Association (CUA), has expressed the union's determination to help fight poverty. He stated that the Government's aim to fight poverty was the main pre-occupation of the CUA and advised members to invest well with loans granted them so that they could easily repay.

The General Manager was addressing members of the Dormaa-Ahenkro branch of Chance Brothers Cooperative Credit Union as part of a nation-wide tour to interact with credit unions to know their problems.

Mr Darko disclosed that the Association gave out a total of 110 billion cedis as loans to members and that had greatly contributed to poverty alleviation.

He emphasized the importance of the credit union concept in supporting people in times of financial difficulties and asked members to make regular savings to enable them to receive loans to expand their businesses.

On measures against loan defaulters, the General Manager contended that there were rules and regulations governing the operations of credit unions but taking court action against loan defaulters would be a last resort.

Madam Rose Yeboaa, Chairperson of Chance Brothers Cooperative Credit Union appealed to CUA to help open offices for its branches for smooth operations.
