Agona West Assembly confirms President's nominee

Agona Swedru, April 6, GNA - The Agona West Municipal Assembly has confirmed Mr Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh as the Municipal Chief Executive. Mr Tetteh, a lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, (UEW), polled 43 votes out of the 44 members of the Assembly with one abstention.

Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, the Central Regional Minister, told the assembly that Mr Tetteh's appointment was not for the members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) alone but for all the people in the Agona West Municipality.

She said the absence of the MCE affected the development of the area and expressed the hope that the people would cooperate with the new MCE to enhance the development of the Municipality. Mrs Benyiwa Doe appealed to members of NDC in the Agona West Constituency to desist from using the media to resolve their political differences, adding that 93the more you are issuing press statement against each other, the more it creates rancour among the rank and file of the party".

She said the party had channels through which members could resolve their internal problems wrangles and there was no need for them to rush to the media.

Mrs Benyiwa Doe appealed to members of the assembly to step up revenue mobilization instead of relying solely on the Common Fund. Nana Okofo Katakyi Nyarko Eku X, Omanhene of the Nyakrom Traditional Area, said the confirmation of the MCE would convince President John Atta Mills to create another district for the area. He said unity, cooperation and understanding would be the only panacea that would enable Mr Tetteh to overcome challenges confronting the Municipality.
