Accept Obed?s Apology - NDC Youth Organizer

The National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to members of the party to accept the apology of the Chairman of the party in good faith and allow for affinity between the various factions and see whether it will not be in the interest of the party.

Haruna Iddrisu says the best thing Dr. Obed Asamoah could offer the party was the extension of olive branches to the founder of the party in the interest of unity saying there is nobody in the party who had not stepped on the toes of someone. According to the MP for Tamale South, information available to him as he travelled across the country was that most party supporters have developed hypertension as a result of the continual division and backbiting at the top with no hope of reconciliation.

?The rancour and acrimonies at the top and within the ranks of the party have made some of the supporters develop hypertension and if we accept Dr. Asamoah?s olive branch the better it will be for the party and all of us?, he noted.

He said the NDC? s quest for political power has been undermined by the lack of internal unity adding that as for the interest groups in the party they would continue to be there and called on members to rather identify the NPP as their common political detractor and therefore direct all their arsenals towards them.

He called on members to take a cue from the just ended NPP congress, that even though there was rivalry between Ntim and Mac Manu both have reconciled immediately after the congress. According to him, the weakness in the NDC is as a result of the existence of different people working against each other and pitied Professor Mills for being a victim of circumstance because he was not the cause of the conflict and division in the party.

The beleaguered chairman of the NDC last Monday extended an olive branch to the leader and founder of the party and the party?s twice-defeated presidential candidate Professor Mills to forgive and forget any acrimonies between them in the interest of the party.

?I believe that we must use the occasion of this congress to unite our members? in that respect I wish to extend a hand of friendliness and an apology to all those with the perception that I have wronged them, particularly President Rawlings and Professor Atta Mills. Let us forgive and forget the past and forge ahead in unity to redeem the nation from the corrupt and incompetent hands of the NPP government?, he stated.

Dr. Asamoah said this at a press conference last Monday to officially launch his campaign for re- election as the chairman of the party in the up coming national delegates congress slated for Koforidua today. According to the chairman, his quest for re- election was in response to calls by members of the party, adding ?I humbly offer myself to serve the party for another term and hope that the delegates to the national Congress scheduled for 21st ?23rd of this month will support my candidature?. Dr. Asamoah assured that if he was re- elected as the chairman he would deepen internal democracy and ensure a level playing field for all those who seek office in the party.

In pursuit of that, he undertook not to oppose, sponsor or campaign for any aspirant for any office, including the flag bearer of the party and would support and work for any person chosen by the party as the flag bearer. ?Let this be a clarion call for all members of the party to eschew divisiveness and to gird our loins for the battle ahead and let us all pledge to accept and abide by the decisions of the congress, the supreme organ of the party? he told the press.
