Ablekuma West primary: We merged all albums ahead of polls – NPP

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) has debunked allegations made by elements within the NPP suggesting that two separate albums were used to conduct the Ablekuma West constituency primary held on Saturday, April 09, 2016.

Ahead of the parliamentary primary 13 constituency executives of the party, led by former constituency chairman, Theophilus Tetteh, announced their resignation from the party, a decision which came on the eve of the polls Saturday.

The move was reportedly in disagreement with the NEC’s decision to admit two different registers for the polls.

In a statement signed by the Director of Election for the NPP, Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah, the party said:”following the NEC decision of 30th March 2016, two albums were merged culminating in only ONE (1) album and which was used in yesterday’s election”

The statement further said it was therefore erroneous that after the merger, one will assume that Saturday’s polls was conducted based on two albums, since the problem was cured ahead of the election.

“The directorate congratulates delegates for a massive turnout as well as the aspirants for their cooperation which ensured a smooth, peaceful and successful election. Same goes to the Police Service and the Electoral Commission for their assistance,” the statement added.

Below is the statement by the NPP

ABLEKUMA WEST CONSTITUENCY PARLIAMENTARY PRIMARY

The New Patriotic Party yesterday successfully conducted the Ablekuma West Constituency Parliamentary Primary. The outcome of the election is as follows:

Total Eligible Voters 1,168
Total Votes cast 876
Total valid votes 871

Ursula Owusu Ekuful polled 554 representing 63.60%.
Robert Kwesi Hayfron polled 317 representing 36.40%.

Total rejected ballots 5
Total percentage turnout-75%

The Election Directorate wishes to clarify that following the NEC decision of 30th March 2016, two albums were merged culminating in only ONE (1) album and which was used in yesterday’s election. It is therefore completely erroneous as some seek to suggest after the merger, that two separate albums existed for the election.

The directorate congratulates delegates for a massive turnout as well as the aspirants for their cooperation which ensured a smooth, peaceful and successful election. Same goes to the Police Service and the Electoral Commission for their assistance.
