The former Director of Communications for the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia 2024 Presidential Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has alleged that the former Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya East Constituency, Mavis Hawa Koomson, is in critical condition after being assaulted in the ongoing parliamentary election rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
Addressing journalists on Friday, July 11, 2025, he stated, "Our people are being attacked, as I speak, Hawa Koomson is fighting for her life."
Tensions heightened during the parliamentary rerun a when a group of unidentified macho men stormed St Peter’s polling station, disrupting the process and unleashing violence on political figures and journalists.
From the videos, some of the thugs hit Hawa Koomson, which forced her to fall to the ground.
The videos captured then showed the thugs dragging the former MP while she was on the floor.
The whole polling station turned chaotic with men in plain clothing having a go at each other.
Some of the policemen at the scene and some other men believed to be the security detail of the former legislator, however, managed to rescue and whisk the former MP away.
Eligible voters in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency are casting their votes to end the long-standing dispute and restore parliamentary representation to the area.
The rerun is to address an existing electoral dispute dating back to the December 7, 2024, elections.
The contest is between the NPP’s Nana Akua Afriyie and the Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
