The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has denied allegations of vote-buying during the parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Speaking to GhanaWeb on Friday, July 11, 2025, Allotey refuted claims that he was distributing money to influence voters.

“I gave them GH¢50 to buy food, that’s all. You can see I’m not carrying any money. Am I having any money on me? No. So, you have to testify yourselves and tell them it’s false information. They are desperate,” he stated.

He went on to liken the opposition’s actions to a dying chicken’s final struggles.

“When you want to cut off a chicken’s head, it struggles before you finally cut it. This is what they are doing. But whatever they do, we will defeat them,” he stated.

Voting is currently underway in 19 polling stations across the constituency as residents choose between the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Nana Akua Afriyie and the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Ewurabena Aubynn.

The rerun is intended to resolve a prolonged electoral dispute and restore parliamentary representation to the area.
