Kasoa Market Retailers Call For Education On VAT

Kasoa (Central Region), 20 Oct. The Ministries of Finance, and Trade and Industry have been urged to organise series of workshops, seminars and symposia to sensitize the people on the importance of the Valued Added Tax (VAT) system. An executive member of Kasoa Market Retailers' Association, Mr Haruna Mensah who made the call, also asked metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies as well as leaders of organized groups to help prepare the minds of the people to embrace the new tax system. Mr Mensah was speaking at the association's quarterly general meeting at Kasoa, at the weekend. He said the VAT campaign should focus on targets groups like, traders, transporters, businessmen, and cooperative movements. The Queenmother of the association, Madam Mercy Amoashie, appealed to the government to rehabilitate roads linking Kasoa and farming communities like Awutu-Bawjiase, Bontrase, and Awutu-Mampong to facilitate the movement of goods and services. Nana Amoashie praised the government for constructing a new modern market complex for Kasoa and advised members of the association who have not paid their development levies towards the project to do so without any further delay. She said the payment of such levies would enable the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly to meet its 25 per cent share of the cost of the project.
