471,185 eligible voters to exercise their franchise in Tema

Tema, Dec. 04, GNA - About 471,185 registered voters in Tema Region are expected to vote for their favourite Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates on Sunday, December 7. They would vote in 423 polling stations to be supervised by 2,115 polling assistants.

Mr Michael Boadu, Tema Regional Electoral Officer disclosed this to Ghana News Agency in Tema on Thursday. He said 18 Parliamentary Candidates would contest in five constituencies in the Region. The constituencies are Tema East, Tema West, Kpone-Katamanso, Adenta and Ashaiman.

The contestants for Tema East Constituency are Mr Evans Ashong Narh 65, Mechanical Engineer and former Mayor of Tema, for New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Robert Kempes Paa Nii Ofosuware 46, Accounts Officer for National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The rest are Mr Richster Nii Armah Amarfio 33, teacher for Convention People's Party (CPP) and an Independent Candidate, Nii Sai Annan, 31, Administrator.

Mr Boadu said Mrs Irene Naa Torshie Addo 38, a Lawyer for the NPP, Mr George Medie 55, Textile Technician for NDC and Mr Isaac Kofi Asempa 65, Engineer for CPP were contesting in Tema West Constituency. The five Parliamentary Candidates contesting in Ashaiman Constituency are 45-year-old businessman, Mr Francis Bernard Anyinatoe 45, Businessman for NPP, Mr Samson Asaki Awingobit 29, Computer Technician for People's National Convention (PNC) and the incumbent Parliamentarian Mr Alfred Kwame Agbesi 53, Lawyer for the NDC.

The others are Mr John Apedo 41, for Democratic Peoples' Party (DFP) and Mr Phoyon Isaac Bruce-Mensah 45, Driver for CPP. Mr Boadu said while the incumbent Parliamentarian, Mr Kwadwo Opare-Hammond 48, Accountant was contesting the Adenta Constituency seat on the ticket of the NPP, Mr Kojo Adu-Asare 42, Businessman for NDC and Mr Mamshie Omar Bawa 28, Businessman for CPP.

He said Parliamentary Candidates for Kpone-Katamanso Constituency were, Mr Samuel Oko Amanquah 40, Accountant for NPP, the incumbent Parliamentarian Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo 41, Farmer for NDC and Mr Daniel Teye Botchway 43, for CPP.

Mr Boadu gave the assurance that the Tema Regional Office of EC had taken delivery of all needed electoral materials and appealed to the electorate to report at their polling stations between 0700 hours and 1700 hours on Sunday, December 7, to vote. He urged them to comport themselves and comply with the basic electoral rules to ensure a peaceful, fair and credible election in the Region. 04 Dec. 08
