3474 registers at Nkoranza

Nkoranza (B/A), June 3, GNA - A total number of 3,474 people were registered in the Nkoranza District during the just ended Limited Voters Registration exercise organised by the National Electoral Commission (NEC).

Mr Kofi Frimpong, District Electoral Officer told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza that 2,260 out of the number were men and 1,212 women.

He said six challenges were raised against six persons, who registered during the period and that four of the challenges were at Yefri in Nkoranza North and Sessinan in Nkoranza South. A panel would be set up to go into the challenges, which bordered on the ages.

Mr Frimpong disclosed that about 109 people, who had already registered in the Electoral Commission but did not possess photo identification cards managed to take their pictures during the exercise. The District Electoral Officer added that about 73 people could not obtain pictures as they missed the cameramen at the stipulated time at the centres but necessary arrangements had been made to assembly them at particular centres, where they could take their pictures. Mr Frimpong expressed gratitude to the management of the Local JERRYSON FM Radio Station for offering him airtime before the registration exercise to educate the people about the importance of the exercise.

He also paid special tribute to the leadership of the various churches in Nkoranza, who allowed him to educate their congregations about the exercise, saying, the visits to the FM station and the churches encouraged the people to register their names. Meanwhile, people who wish to contest the forth-coming District Assembly elections have been frequenting the District Electoral Office to find out the date the Electoral Commission would open nominations to file their nominations papers.
