The National Democratic Congress (NDC) deputy secretary for the Mpohor Constituency in the Western Region, Bernard Afful, has reportedly been arrested for allegedly registering minors in the ongoing 2024 Limited Voters Registration Exercise.

According to a news report by asaaseradio.com, the 59-year-old NDC constituency secretary was arrested together with the proprietor of Voice of Christ Preparatory School in Mpohor, Rojer Miller, who is accused of assisting Afful in registering persons below the legally required age of 18 years.

The report indicated that personnel from the Ghana Police Service in Mpohor received information that Rojer Miller, a 33-year-old, had registered his 16-year-old son, Gildolf Andoh, and his colleagues, who were also minors.

After completing the exercise, the proprietor of Voice of Christ Preparatory School allegedly took the newly issued voter ID cards from the minors.

The police, after gathering intelligence, stormed the school and arrested the NDC executive and the proprietor.

After searching Rojer Miller’s room, the police found voter ID cards bearing the names of Gildolf Andoh, Christabel Obeng Damoah, Christiana Assan, Spendlove Nana Boah, and Edward Ntiakoh, all students of the Voice of Christ Preparatory School.

The NDC executive, Bernard Afful, and Rojer Miller, the proprietor, admitted to having sent the five students to the registration centre to be registered, after being interrogated.

The two accused were arraigned before court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, the police have indicated that they are working to obtain the birth certificates of the five students to authenticate the accuracy of their ages.
