They are waiting for their bribes. If this young man had tried smuggling these boats, which of course means he is prepared to pay bribe, the boats would have been in town looooong time ago. What a rotten society?

Shame on Ghana customs...people cross our frontiers with all sorts of contraband materials after settlement, and yet, materials for sports development is blocked for no apparent reason.

What is wrong with this country and its inhabitants? Why do we take credit for what other countries have done with our people. This guy happened to live in France hence his exposure and consequent profession in rowing. The only thing Ghanaian about this guy is his name (same applies to many of our footballers and other athletes). Yet the headline reads "Ghana's international rowing athlete". We invest into big cars, billboards, political campains, funerals, fat bank accounts and forget to invest into these sports disciplines so that our youth will realise their talents. There isn't a single play ground or sports center for kids in this country. All our prominent sports men and women somehow had their genesis from a foreign country through the use of their facilities. Soon as we notice someone with a Ghanaian name shoot to fame, we claim ownership. What stops Ghana in investing into rowing, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, surfing, athletics, etc so we will have representatives in all these discipline on the world stage? What is wrong with these thick, ugly, fatfaced buffoons? I'm not the least proud of this country of my birth.

Look its not an issue of who sent his dad where. The facilities he used to reach this stage belonged to France (not Ghana). Why can't Ghana invest in our youth by putting money into these sports disciplines? How many parks (with green grass and football posts and markings) do we have? Our football stars rise to fame by playing gutter to gutter or play on rocky pitches. The same applies to boxing. So, my friend, forget about who sent who and all. It goes deeper than that. I hope you get my drift now.

Hi all,
thanks to all those who left kind comments. Indeed, it is true that I did live for sometime in France, but what this article does not say is that I am fully Ghanaian. France gave me the opportunity to start rowing, but I have never rowed for them and my goal is to represent Ghana at as many international regattas as possible.
In my humble opinion, Ghana needs to develop other sports and diversify their options. As of now, we are solely focused on soccer, athletics and boxing. There are other sports such as rowing that can be good for us.
I live in Accra and if you need more information feel free to check out my website jmoine.fr and my contact email is on there too.
Once again, thanks a lot and we will continue to try to make you proud.
I hope the Hon. minister has read this piece. We have talent but this raw talents know it is all for fishing to make money. This can bring us more fame one day.
