It is quite funny how some so called analyst's come out with their half baked reports and rather think that some nurses are half baked professionals. No matter how you try to tat is the image of this noble profession, the fact still remains that one will have to meet a certain cumulative grade point average consistently from first year till final year. This make it difficult to have a half baked professional as purported by this half baked report. The author of this article or report add up to the reason behind some of us think that some Ghanaian journalists are stomach journalists- nothing more nothing less. This is not even worth waiting precious time on cuz it lacks basic facts.

Ask well or do your research judiciously and you shall know, nursing courses and it's exams are one of the few difficult exams this country can boast of my friend. Some of us who are nurses can boast of better Wassce,or ssce results than you,though I'm not sounding boastful here. Moreover, the organization, nature of the semester courses, schedule practicals and the nature of nursing licensure exams is not meant for dumbs if you care to know. first ignorance is the claim that nurses go to school for 3 years, that's a lie. all clinical nurses comprising general nurses, psychiatry nurses and midwives are trained 4 years, 3 years in school plus 1 year hospital based rotation which the nurses and midwives council by law considers part of their training before being allowed to start work as staff nurses. all rotational nurses and midwives are in their 4th year of training.
the second ignorance on the part of Grace Hammond is her attempt to raise uncontrolled, pamphlets theory educated university graduates above professionals like nurses. for her education, universities also educate degree nurses to sit for licensure examination with college nurses on the same day, same exams questions and the college nurses have always passed more than the university nurses.
third ignorance is the claim that nursing colleges accept low grades for admission. that's impossible in Ghana . in fact the nursing colleges verify results before interviewing applicants for admission and after admission the nurses and midwives council verifies all wassce and sssce results before allowing students to even finish their first semester and then after graduation and passing the license exam they verify their wassce again before giving license.
the stress nurses go through both in training and work should be appreciated. don't jealous them because it was a choice you made despite your ignorance that you had good grades. for teachers we appreciate their work especially from daycare to P6. teachers are the most important workers in all countries only second to farmers. unfortunately in Ghana teachers have refused to write a council exams which is important in making them distinct and professionals. it's time teachers agreed to write council exams and be licensed teachers according to subject areas and grade of students. until then, every truant university standing-for-lectures-without-seeing-the lecturer-graduate will hijacked and dilute the teaching profession making it look cheap and least respected. university graduates should be prepared to join a professional body like the nurses, doctors, pharmacists, lawyers, engineers, etc and stop thinking that a nonspecific university theory degree paper in itself is something that nurses and trained teachers can't get. all trained nurses who later go to university for a degree will tell they learnt far less for the degree compared to their college diplomas. Grace Hammond please start respecting nursing and trained teachers waai.

Nursing n training college graduates are also graded with classes and these certificates are not acquired on silver platter because students prove their individual competencies by exams conducted by an external body so bad students are usually withdrawn. It is not like university where students acquire first class, second upper etc without attending lectures because of their relationships with lecturers and chancellors. I know a lot of students who were withdrawn from nursing and training colleges because of poor performance but have completed universities with good classes. How come? And one thing you should bear in mind is that there are students with better grades in colleges than in universities but circumstances have landed each and every one where he or she finds himself or herself.

I was advised wisely. I know have 3 degrees in total, one BSc... and 2 MSc's all in reputable U.K universities. Without my nursing, I wouldn't be where I am...God has used that means to BLESS me and others.
I am currently doing a job a get paid about £40,000 per annum.
At a start, it looks like a daunting thing to do when my friends were undertaking various courses at the university for university sake...
