or WhatsApp addiction.
Never a moment free for extensive reading, reflection, philosophical thoughts, and brainstorming for novel ideas and concepts, as the likes of Albert Einstein and F. K. Allotey did.

Barnabas Otoo, I do honor your effort to write this article. Yes we do need a change in our educational system. A change that would start with reconnecting our young ones to Nature. First of all we need to scrap BECE. It boggles my mind why we need to subject our children to testing. A salient problem facing our education system today is our children's alienation from the natural world.
In my opinion, essential for a livable tomorrow is education for sustainability. I think we do need a paradigm shift that aspires to educate our young ones to make decisions that try to balance the preservation of ecosystems, economies, and equitable social systems, instead of chewing, pouring & passing BECE.
Throughout the world, "green schools", education for sustainable development, environmental education, nature and place-based education, and farm-to-school movement are springing up.

The author is right on the need to use the opportunity provided by the National Science and Math Quiz to attend to the issue of long-needed changes in the educational system.
An educational system that seeks to train citizens to think must introduce kids to coding as early as possible. This must be embedded in the curriculum.
History has presented several opportunities for Ghana -and indeed Africa in general- to ride the wave of scientific discoveries that disrupt the status quo of technology in a manner that makes for huge savings in carrying out great development projects. And few, if any, development projects, can be more impactful than a revolutionary education idea.
In the field of IT alone, the history of microcomputers in the eighties first gave us The BBC Micro, way more powerful than the Sinclair ZX Spectrum or the CPM clones, then there was The IBM PC (damned expensive!), etc. Then the late nineties and 2000's brought even more interesting designs such as the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC)'s XO laptop, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and now the The VoCore2 Mini, etc.
Ghana has woefully failed to capitalize by joining the bandwagon to exploit the opportunities offered by any of the above revolutionary breakthroughs.
Luckily, with every new day comes even more revolutionary ideas. The challenge, however, is to not wait to count them and note them go by the day.
