The reason is simple.
Even as an incumbent president he could not retain power because of the gargantuan corruption that he presided upon both as vice presided and later, the president of the Republic.
Here is a man who, as a vice president, was being investigated on the quite by Prof Mills, the president, for duping Ghana in huge sums of money when he(Mahama) led Ghana to acquire aircrafts from Brazil. Mahama was only saved from humiliation by the strategically orchestrated murder of prof MIlls. Some apology of a vice President!.
Again Mahama turned the Jubilee House into a fortified bunker for hardened criminals. He sat on the report of the Justice Dzamefa Committee, and shielded Afriyie Ankrah and Adu Asare in his office.
Not all Ghanaians have short memory as incompetent Mahama once wanted Ghanaians to believe.
Who will vote for a former president who allowed his brother to grab any Ghanaian property that he could laid his hands on for free. Was it not the same brother who issued 42 or so bank fake checks on closed bank accounts when Mahama was president?
Again I don't want to tell the NDC what to do but the most dumbest stretch they could go is to rally behind a man whose greed and incompetence, as an incumbent President, led to the most excruciating defeat ever recorded in the annals of contemporary Ghana politics.
Btw, I'm only a spectator. I leave it to the conscience of the NDC delegates, particularly Trokosi, who never use their heads when voting to select a leaders, to choose whoever they like when the time comes.

If the author will remember, in his first trip outside Ghana as an ex-President, H.E John Mahama recalled a letter that His Father had written to General Achaempong stating YOU BOW OUT WHEN THE APPLAUSE IS LOUDEST.
It is therefore obvious that President John Mahama will be an unprincipled man should he betray his Father's admonishment to leaders, which He so passionately associates with.
We must as Ghanaians show him love and encouragement to enable him set up his library, social projects and institute.

For NDC to win power in 2024, someone similar to kwasi botchwey will be the best. Character and the financial/economic background. For 2020, NDC will lose first round. At best they will close the gab a bit.
