  Thank You for aptly describing and sharing what I went through as a child.
  Through out my life I have rejected the idea of SCD controlling my life.
  I have done well for my self in life. But I have hidden this sickness from my friends, I hate to be pitied so I portray myself as normal as anyone else.
  
  I always hide any sickle cell crisis and the constant admission at the hospital from my friends.
  if it happened on a weekend , I will make sure I am back at work on Monday as if nothing happened, although i suffer in silence.
  I have learnt to cope with the pain and live with it.
  Fortunately I hardly get sick now.
  
  All we have to keep us going, is hope and faith.
