Sorry Nana Yaw Osei but you must have slept through classes where you learned about independent branches of government. I will not blame you one bit for your fake amnesia or attempts to throw a bone to the dimwits who need a misguided crap from writers like you to go on killing spree in the name of political party.
The speaker of parliament is a functional member of parliament not the executive/presidency or judiciary/courts. Parliament as you should know can change the Constitution to give them powers to consider parliamentary deliberations? under a tree, in a lake somewhere if they so choose or better yet let the many devil's masquerading as preachers and making predictions to scare the daylights of the sinful members of parliament as their advisor if they so choose. The point is that parliament can set whatever rules they deem fit for themselves.
It is the Constitution, stupid, that require parliamentary consent and approval of the president's executive level appointments to the courts and other institutions. Do you know of a time in the history of post independent Ghana where the president or prime minister's party had not been the majority party in parliament? The answer is never and for which we always find ourselves under dictators pretending to know a thing about democracy. In each of the dictatorship governments we have had, civilian and military government alike, the only branch of government that could have saved Ghana from past and ongoing treachery and savagery of government administration was the Judiciary/courts but they failed. The ideal court system as intended by framers of three legged governments wad to be the arbiter between executive and legislative disputes while ensuring that laws of the land are executed equitably and as intended. The courts failed to live up to it's hype from the onset of our self government because the political party that controls the executive/presidency also controls the legislature/parliament in Ghana; they tend to appoint and approve morons to the courts who carry water for the majority party. The NPP in particular have used the courts in more deviant ways than one and this Justice Akuffo nominee is simply a danger to democracy even if it is Ghana's watered-down democracy.
Under this Nana Akufo-Addo NPP administration there is lawlessness led by terror groups Delta and Invincible forces of the NPP, civil servants are being abused while the government steals money through public funding schemes. A Nana Akufo-Addo administration that is this ill-mannered, thrive on tribal abuses and Ghana history rewrite by the Kyebi clan is bound to challenged through the courts by moral and principled Ghanaians. So how can the courts not become a tool of the majority party that has nominated and intend on approving the appointment of Justice Akuffo to the highest court of the land with the final say on all things legal? So pardon me if I say to you there's a threat to Justice and individual liberties and freedoms with this nominee than anything this administration has done to date. And for those who say Justice Akuffo is so damn qualified I say to you intelligence is not akin to wisdom and we should not let the national NPP government piss on our collective legs and tell us it's raining. Those who do not learn from past mistakes and experiences are doomed to failure
