I live in France where we don't have BECE pass obligation.A student from JHS goes to SHS with a pass or failure of the terminal exams. The reason why their education system allows all students from JHS to enter SHS without hinderance is logical.First of all, they have a compulsory age for attending formal education up to 16 years. You cannot stop attending school unless you are 16 years, that's the law.The govt also finds it economical to push students forward instead of repeating them.Remember,it takes money to keep students in school. There's always an avenue for second chance and different orientations for students. When a student performs poorly in academic classes the school authorities take the student through orientation of different studies. Here, you can be trained on a more practical field like Technical,Commercial,Vocational,Training College or Apprenticeship of your choice. The govt is aware of the need to train skillful and qualified workers for industries and contruction etc,so nobody is left out;poor or rich.Thank you.

Ghana is highly respected in world in terms of education because of the strong foundation via the basic education. Countries that are not good in education and struggling are those with poor foundation because they don't have such a basic education exams. To scrap it will cause more harm than good. Those who think they have technical know-how rather than academies can proceed to technical schools and even polytechnic courses where the BECE certificate is not needed.

Are you listening to yourself? Which level after BECE doesn't not require BECE for entry? But for your poor grammar, I would have taken you on. Go and sin no more.

I'm sure am not the only one thinking that we should have moved past BECE by now?
there's a long list of arguement to suggest that the nature of this examination at this level is selective, irrelevant and discriminatory. Much more so when you realize that JHS 1 students are studying amplification and switching and p4 student are made to study forward and reverse biasing in transistors. it's about time we adopted a more open minded and effective curriculum that focuses on exploring the strengths of the individuals rather than a means of elimination. I hope there's a strong media campaign to Scrap and replace BECE with a better module

You are absolutely right and the most annoining part is that some of the children failed not because they did not perform well in the exams but rather the problem come from this our examination body called WAEC. It appears that they intentional fail them since its now a business to them, looking at their motto which says "your failure is their success" just imagine a motto like this, what won't they do to people.
An example to show that they really failed student just to succeed is this year BECE science paper and this is an extract from the 2017 BECE Integrated Science question 5 (a) (ii)
"What is the end product of digestion? "
This question is absolutely wrong!
Eventhough I am chemistry biased, my basic Science Education stuff tells me that, the end product of protein is amino acids. That of carbohydrate maybe glucose, galactose or fructose.
The end product of fat are triglycerides, free fatty acids and glycerol.
I am totally at a loss as to which of the specific content the question was referring to.
I am not surprised things like these are going on.
If the WAEC can present Sodium triooxonitrate (V) as "Na2NO3" and Hydrochloric acid as "HCl2" on the question paper of the 2015 WASSCE Chemistry 3 Alternative A paper, what else can we expect?
I expect the worse to happen in the coming days if no drastic action is taken.
The biggest irony is that basic school teachers are no longer setting their own questions for the kids they teach after studying Educational Measurement and Evaluation at school simply because District Directorates seems to be getting some money from their private partnership with their so called "expert" setting the ambiguous "standard questions".
The future is uncertain if we can't get people who are skillfully
trained in setting questions for our kids.
By the way, what else do we expect if the function of the human head is used to "carry load " as illustrated in text books for our kids? The time to act is now.

In fact as a nation we have also forgotten the fact that we cause our cycle of even producing the so call poor brains the more.
Because, most of the BECE weak failures or half baked, from our poor villages and poor parents who couldn't pass their BECE examination well also end up in the teacher training colleges after struggling through to some poor SHS in the deprived districts.
These products come back to the classrooms to confuse our kids or pupils the more. Forcing them to understand what they couldn't understand when they were their levels.
After subjecting our nation in this kind of mess, we end up crying the most when the kids don't perform well at the BECE years after. Who are we deceiving?.... I believe that the best solution is to scrap off to allow every student to progress to the SHS after the some promotional examination just as it is being done now instead, to allow for their individual marks to determine their next SHS schools but not to fail them and stay home for the lack of money to progress to the next level of academic. So I side with you Mr. Andoh. Kudos!
