Frequently they brutalize innocent civilians. Why are they showing the picture of the deceased soldier when he was 21 years? The attack was filmed which probably meant that the perpetrators did not know the identity of the deceased. Which person in his right senses will kill a soldier and film it? The hysteria should stop! We have the thoughtless Ghana Army engaging in lawless attacks against innocent civilians who have nothing to do with the attack. There are so many unanswered questions. Who sent the soldier into that community? Why was he not his uniform? Why was he alone? Why do we need soldiers to do that type of job instead of the police? The hysteria should stop! There was not much hysteria in the country when Rawlings rounded up three high court judges and summarily executed.

Ghana people, especially the youth, do not allow your leaders to treat u with disrespect, there have been several deaths of innocent women and children through ritual killings by politicians, kings,juju men and women and also through lynching by mobs seeking instant justice, nothing has ever been done.
It is a known secrete that when kings die, innocent blood are shed. Some fetish priests demand human parts for their rituals etc.
Mahama death must not be in vain, it must be a wake up call to find ways to modernize our primitive culture. Asante hene and the other kings must render public apology to the families of all those who were victims of ritual killings in the history of their kingdom. Our leaders must find ways to educate the themselves and the general public about this primitive practice.

I believe the people acted out of fear and panic because of the incessant armed robberies that had been going on in the area without any positive response from the security forces. The people's action cannot be condoned, but let us investigate what pre-empted them to take such dastardly action!

From all indications, the snail seller and her colleagues blew the issue out of proportion to the assemblyman; and he being a normal Ghanaian (we do not take time to analyze issues one bit)shouted 'Eureka'! By the time he and his colleagues even got to the Captain the women might have alerted other folks in the village and every energy had been gathered towards killing 'an armed robber'. The strangest thing is that we could not have a scenario where a few individuals could have expressed some form of sympathy (granted he was an 'armed robber') towards him and shield him whilst insisting he be taken to the Chief's Palace, some village elder or to a Police Station for interrogation. We have always witnessed situations where people wha have been caught in the act of committing heinous crime are shown that compassion by a few 'weak hearts' and has saved them from lynching. It does not look like it happened in the Captain's case and I personally find it so puzzling and unbelievable that it happened so. Possibly the previous armed robbery reported of (if true) had incensed the village folks beyond a point where they had no human feeling! So sad and strange.

I guess the assembly man was the most focal point of leadership and in his show of strength let mercy slide. Quite unfortunate this incident. May it not happen to anyone again.

We should find a lasting solution to this entire nonsense going on in Ghana and Africa as a whole where instand justice is applied whenever incidence of this nature occurred. I have one or two advice to that effect. 1. We need a stringent laws that will prevent mobbed action. 2. There should be no secret deployment of military or police in any community in Ghana. Any deployment requires media briefing, involvement of the public opinion, Chiefs and the people of the particular area, the DCE, the Regional minister and the assambly men and the women. where the services of the police or the military is needed

1. Security officers don't walk alone during operations. Soldiers are aware of this. Being deployed for just three weeks implies that he was not well and fully known by all within and around his base as a soldier.
2. He shouldn't have carried a weapon in civil dress without an ID Card. He made a slight mistake which has caused his life even though the mob action was not justified.
3. Armed robbery is on the rise recently and the robbers are adopting different modes to operate. Mere verbal identification as a military officer could be taken as a means to have your way and escape.
4. The snail seller did a good citizen work by alerting the assembly man. If she had known the deceased as an army officer, she wouldn't have gone ahead to inform the assembly man.
5. The assembly man did well by organizing and arresting the deceased. That should have been the end. The rest should have been handing over of the suspect to the Police. The mob action was very barbaric. The suspect was treated as if he was a dangerous animal. It must be condemned. We are all vulnerable.
WHY THE RECENT SPATE OF MOB ACTION?
Armed robbers and other dangerous criminals are either granted bail or discharged to roam the streets and commit the very crime they were charged with. The citizenry have list confidence in the judiciary hence they are resorting to instant justice.

The police need extensive training and any recruitment needs to be qualified and work professionally. So many times seeing police receive bribes on the road side and nothing gets done. Someone was getting lynched at circle a couple of years back and a police man in Police uniform(off duty or not) walked pass as if he hasn't seen anything when even someone drew his attention to what was going on. Is that how these Police meant to protect the ordinary Ghanaian and non-Ghanaian trained? Let us all help to educate ourselves for a better Ghana. Love from the United Kingdom.

I am a military man abroad and I have a few issues with the Captian's actions and the crowd.
First thing, why is the officer wearing a gun or weapon in civilian clothes? I have live in Ghana , so I would have made the same mistake as the woman because no one is above the law to wear a weapon in public in Ghana with out authorization , whether you are military or not.
Second the difference between a armed robber and a military personnel is the uniform, therefore he should have presented some ID to prove that he was a military man. This is nothing new . The officer should have known that civilians would react in a hasty manner, so he should have paid attention to his surroundings and made it know by wearing his military identifcation.
We can't take the common word of a person as a verification for military or governmental status, especially in a rural environment.
In my point of view, if dared to wear a gun , then he should had a military identification .
The gun is not a form of identifcation .
Finally, the reaction of the people in reference to killing him was very wrong and those responsible should be punish , however we all must understand that the Captain played into his faith for carrying the gun around civilians.

Therefore the military should also be held accountable as well as the men who were charged for not training the officer properly. If he was a commander and made this lower rank mistake , then the Department of Defense for Ghana should revised their training method.

Where also is the mention of an earlier armed robbery in the town. Can a person jog 10kms in less than two hours?
Much as we all want culprits to be punished, attempts to nail the villagers by all means should not be made. There should fairness at all times.
Let's me honest. If armed robbers had attacked a village in the not distant weeks and it is reported that somebody carrying a gun is running along the road, the villagers will try to stop him. They may do this by firing a warming shot. If the suspected robber returns fire then the obvious is what happened. There is no time on the country has anybody jailed over mob lynching. This is what l hate about Gh, even when people hear okronfo o they will never wait and acess the situation instead they will start beaten that person to death. In August 2007, my brother, a second year student (first class) of the physics department of KNUST left our town with my father to receive medical treatment for a high fever related condition in Accra before school starts in a week's time. They arrived in Accra late hoping to visit the hospital the next morning. Late at night my brother sneaked out and was no where to be found the next morning. My brother's lifeless body was found in three days time battered heavily for whatever sins, who knows? May his soul rest in perfect peace. Till date the corrupt police institutions has done nothing about it because their palms have not been greased. Now the case is a COLD ONE. Had the whole university descended to the area where his body was found just like the soldiers in the case of captain Mahama, maybe the outcome would have been different. Ghana had been brought on it's knees by corrupt politicians corrupting every institution in our country. It's a shame! Police in Japan will investigate and find the murderer of even a day old baby and the Judiciary will punish him/her accordingly. Shame on politicians who have succeeded to make corruption so pervasive in every sphere of our society.
