The brutal murder of Captain Mahama is the result of multiple institutional failure: The media, the judiciary, the traditional authorities, local government authorities, the police and finally the military itself.
Lynchings have been going on in Ghana the past twenty years, at least. Where was "Dr" Brenda Twumasi when lynchings of suspected thieves - human beings killed for as little as a mobile phone - were taking place under the Kufuor administration? Under the Mills presidency? Then the Mahama administration?
The media jubilated, publishing pictures and videos. No professional decorum. No professional discretion and restraint. No, it was in-your-face, tabloid-style sensationalism! Never mind that there was a National Media Commission whose salaried job it was to regulate the media. The police did nothing. The juduciary did nothing, busy as it was with lucrative "judgment debt" scams. The traditional authorities did nothing. The numerous for-self-profit "prophets", "bishops", "apostles", street preachers, bus evangelists and what have you said nothing. Everything was fine and dandy in peaceful Ghana! Everything was fine and wonderful, as fine as the narcotic drug trans-shipments and the intense "small-scale" mining and pollution with huge excavators, arsenic, mercury and unknown toxic chemical that will poison the soil and water-bodies of Ghana for centuries!
Until the barbarous, monstrousity of Captain Mahama's lynching - KKK-style - on the peaceful, Christian, African soil of Ghana!

As a military officer worthy of his rank, why did he fail to fight off his assailants or at least kill off a sizeable portion of them before they could end his life? Is the training given to our military officers from the universities rigorous enough for real life combat situations? Judging by the video I saw or the views of other ex-military personnel, they claim the Captain should at least have taken down ten of his assailants before being killed. They were of the view that the training given to the officers these days wasn't enough to meet requirements for a street brawl let alone modern warfare. The military should stop passing off 'dada ba' graduates as military officers and recruit real men as soldiers!
