Doc, what I think is that just like we do in basic schools, students are not promoted wholesale to the next class. Even from Nursery 1, you pass your exam before you are promoted to Nursery 2. Similarly, from JHS 3, you have to pass an exam to be promoted to SHS 1 (class 4)if you want. Is anythig wrong with that; or do you think we should abolish exams completely from Nursery to SHS?

Yes, I also understood from all the hankering that SHS was going to be the basic level educational system for all, brilliant or a dunce. Anything less than that in implementation will be going back on the promise the NPP made.
We read:
" In the 2016/2017 academic year, for instance, GES is reported to have placed 95% (437,962 out of 461,013) of the BECE candidates in the 512,114 declared vacancies at SHS/TVIs across the country."
Now, if the NDC has been able to get 95% of BECE candidates into the SHS based on the raw score system, then it is possible to posit that this grade system of "pass your BECE and get free education" will actually reduce the number of pupils entering the SHS, as I doubt the average pass rate across board in the country is not even 60%. We have read of schools in which everybody failed, and they are not only in the 3 Northern regions!
From the quote above, it appears the vacancies are even more than the number of candidates available to fill them, so there is no need to apply this kind of elitist squeeze. After all, some are late starters and may even perform better than some who outperformed them at the JSS BECE level.
Obviously, some would have failed so badly that it makes no sense promoting them into SHS, if they couldn't cope with the JSS syllabus. Let them repeat? Or, be chanelled into vocational schools to learn a trade?
Indeed, some may turn out to be superb masons, brinklayers, carpenters, cobblers, fitters, plumbers, etc.
