I have personally given some serious thoughts to her conduct most especially in the Bugri Naabu case. The only thing I found was that Ghanaians do not want the truth to be said but will always push matters under the carpet to protect a certain vested interest. She was only cowed to apologise but for me she did nothing wrong. Was she the one who disorganised the meeting in Tamale? Is not true that Bugri had been taking money, goats and sheep as bribe? The government was only interested in protecting their image even if demands sacrificing the honest truth. I am happy I share some of my thoughts with someone else

Afisa has proved to have high integrity. She should hold on to that and not be deterred in her quest for honesty and accountability to God and mankind.

I have always harboured that same feeling that the writer has put across. Otiko is faultness in the issues she has been confronted with. The NDC people hated her because they wanted her to apologise for saying what we all know, that Mahama was corrupt. When she refused there was a campaign to make her unpopular and that has been the agenda. With regard to Bugri Naabu we all know the insults that uncouth person hurled at Otiko. Wasn't Bugri Naabu the first to insult her? Of course she also replied him. And what is wrong with that if someone accuses you falsely you also try to fine something that will hurt the person? So Otiko also responded with a jibe. There are some people out there who always want to find fault with her she is strong enough to bounce back. I am very happy for her and thanks for the brilliant piece from the writer.

I see Otiko as a strong woman who speaks her mind and holds fast to her convictions. In fact, she exhibited this character when she was being vetted. Why is it that some people are quick to condemn her at almost with the least opportunity? Take for example the amount of condemnation she received from some individuals in the public when she advised young girls to wear decent dresses to prevent the temptations some men go through that sometimes lead to rape. But is she not vindicated now that even the ministry of education has come out with strict dress code for female teachers in the country.
On the Bugri Naabu case, specifically, I personally feel that as a minister of state Ms Otiko is not obliged to report to the party chairman of a region when she goes there on official duties. She should be seen as haven gone to work for Ghana as a whole. If she is obliged to see the NPP chairman then she has to report to the NDC chairman as well, and in fact, to all parties since she is minister for all. Party affairs should be divorced from official duties, I think.

Otiko should have spit in Bugri's face for invading her private meeting and behaved like an idiot. The era where men use to bully women and get away with is over. Otiko is a minister of State who work for all Ghanaian, and is not required or obliged to notify Bugri anytime she step in his boundaries as an NPP chairman. Bugri is not the regional minister and had no business to do what he stupidly did. For me it is discretional, and must be 'circumstancial' for a substantive minister of State to notify party executives whenever the minister is doing government business in their jurisdictions.. Naabu Bugri could have been invited to the meeting if his input was needed. More so, there was appropriate way of handling the situation, even if Otiko erred, than for Bugri to foolishly storm the meeting grounds and throw things around. Lady Otiko should have given Bugri instant double for his despicable behavior. The disrespect for women by some Ghanaian men must stop now. Btw, Kweku Baako and most social commentators got it wrong on Otiko; Bugri was the basket case.

I agree with you Adofo, Otiko did nothing wrong. I repeat; Otiko Afisa Djaba did absolutely nothing wrong by standing up to the pig Bugri Naabu. In many advanced democracies, respect is not a right; respect is earned. Ghana cannot claim to be a democracy and still keep the outmoded culture of subservience to our elders most of whom have no brains.
Our culture is inimical to progress and unless there is 'culture' revolution, our country would stay as primitive and backward as it is now.
It is imperative women in Ghana emulate Ms. Otiko Afisa Djaba if they want to earn respect and gain their freedom from these male chauvinists.
Ghana needs more Otiko Afisa Djabas to clean up all the filth in the culture.

The lady has always been my idol. She is the very embodiment of the new progressive Ghanaian woman. She will never submit to bullying, misogynistic men who want to put women in their place. Just in case Bugri and his ilk have not noticed, the world is a whole new place now. Of course they can always move to Saudi Arabia where they can trample on the human rights of women all they want.
