To rationalise some bible stories is a futile exercise because they are meant to be believed, not to be reasoned out. But, there is the danger also to just believe or accept some things without having to first understand them. Imagine this mysterious snake which communicated to Eve in her language. No snake has ever spoken since.

@GhanaPrincess, the aticle is suggesting that humankind was not originally gendered. Social gendering came as a result of men assuming position in society and the desire to assume superiority over women. It is simply a social construct but not ordered by the devine. That is thr thrust of the piece. Cheers.

This is an intriguing and a scholarly display of philosophy. Very insightful. I also struggle to understand why a just God will make a woman a second fiddle to man. How can washing a man's cloth or cooking for him be some of the standards of submission? Society has made us all guilty of misogyny. Christianity is not the only culture to portray an ingrained prejudice against women. It happened in the pre-Islamic Arabia. Muslims today make women pray behind them. In Saudi Arabia, per the Sharia Law, women who are rape victims are openly lashed in public. In some African traditional religious setting, women are enslaved: especially, trokosi among some ewes of Ghana. Gikuyu girl in Kenya is another example. In some communities women during their menstruation times, are forbidden to performing certain tasks such as fetching water from a river. Inasmuch as I do agree with you, Mr writer, Christianity cannot be isolated. Christianity is a good faith only that some practitioners are using it to exploit the less privilege in society.

The piece is just for us to rethink some issues Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) have made us to take as facts. It is not intended to spite any religion. One sigificant fact we cannot run away from is that Abrahamic religions ahve shaped the thinking of the world. I am not unaware of the various religions' attitude to women. This piece was dedicated to all women. Honestly, it is time to take issues on women serious. Humankind is missing something because of our attitude to women, a very siginificant part of humanity
