Going by your example, how can u buy a fixed bond at 25% and auction it at 17%? Who pays for the 8% difference? What govt has done is to shift the payment of these bonds forward by auctioning them. This means they got cash from the new bonds to offset the maturing ones and retire others completely. This way we pay less annually/monthly but over a longer period of time. This guarantees govt some fiscal space carry out its work. Its good to do this bcos of the huge govt debt left by the ndc. Ndc messed up the economy and npp is trying to make it work again. But we must be truthful to the facts.

The bottom line is that the Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration need money for its pie-in-the sky politically engineered policies. Ghana under Mahama took out loans to offer Ghanaians NDC gimmicks of the rotten kind. The fact still remains that if the Mahama administration had obtained the best deal possible for its loans, Ghana would still have incurred a debt. What then makes the Nana administration borrowing to give us unsustainable gifts better than the unsustainable gifts from the Mahama era? What your article is attempting to do, Antwi Boasiako, is continue the political and ethnic/tribal lie that an NPP abuse and misuse in Ghana is better than an abuse and misuse under the NDC.
Now let’s talk policy shall we? When did Ghana’s private and public employers call for lack of qualified candidates as reason for lack of innovation and or massive unemployment numbers that await SS and university graduates in Ghana? Ghana’s youth do not get educated to become best educated unemployed labor force in the world; they do seek education to be gainfully employed. What then is the policy of free education going to do for unemployment in Ghana besides making Ghana an employer’s market where employers get to depress wages because there are more applicants per job opening? So if the loan the NPP is seeking is to fulfil their free education policy they better think about creating employment. It is only when there is thriving private industries that they, the private employers in turn will help government and education institutions create and provide applicable curriculum that turn-out graduates with the skills needed for industry.
The NPP has not done miracles with the refinancing of NDC era loans but snookered dumb and dumber Ghanaians like you, Antwi Boasiako. Can you tell me which banking and financial institution in the world will lose money by negotiation a contract that affects its bottom line; profits? It will eventually come out what Nana Akufo-Addo’s NPP administration gave up to get the loan agreement you now tout. It is the same Nana under whose watch the Delta forces and Invisible forces are terrorizing Ghanaian citizens while the security agencies whose top administrators are now NPP appointees deny knowing by look the other way.

You are a rogue economist:what differences does that make considering the high rate of od doller,..ook;if you calculate the interest rate difference what differences dies it make ..nothing,in the end of the loan fiscal paymentwhich is the next 15yrs..the dollar depreciation and the bod appreciation to the owners far more benefited to th beneficialkies and ghana is a looser because the interest rate differences which is about 8% could have used to pay part of the debt rather that sell the bonds with low interest rate.the benefialies will benefit more and ghana would be loser. No wonder Ofori Atta sold the bonds to jos cronnies ,gamily memebera and friends
