It is indeed sad that one of the UNCOUTH elements responsible for creating the kind of red flags Zanetor is warning against should steal my name and initials again to write his crass insulting nonsense against responsible people who have been writing against the ethnocentricism, bigotry and propensity to violence of the NPP tradition and elements. Of course, I was foremost in writing about these things since the 1990s. Yes, the chickens are simply coming home to roost.
I had already published on Ghanaweb too two series on the Rwandan/Burundian genocides. Of course, the Hutu/Tutsi relationship was one of the subjects Dr Thakur used as an illustration of dominating systems in our Political Sociology elective in the late 1970s at Legon, so I have an educated knowledge of the subject and therefore took a keen interest in reading anything on the unfolding drama in the early 1990s. That's why I knew that small scale genocides were already happening before the big April one and the countries that were complicit in the genocide.
More importantly, I was then affiliated to Chr. Michelsen Institute, (CMI), Bergen, Norway, when it won the UN consultancy to write the first substantial report on the genocide. I was not happy with the limited terms and therefore didn't volunteer to assist the Rapporteur, Dr Astri Suhrke. I handed over my dossier to her assistant and when some of that stuff spilled into the Report, France went haywire and wanted their $50000 contribution back! How could one write such a report without mentioning the powerful nations who obstructed Kofi Annan's recommendations to the UN Secretary-Gen. to reinforce the UN Peace Makers, and rather forced their withdrawal of most?
I am glad Zanetor has written on the subject. Her mother being an Asante, the people often recognise as the main culprits in dishing out ethnocentric prejudices against even fellow Akans, and the father being a bonafide Ewe, the ethnic group that is the main target of the Akan bigots that coalesced around the Asante supremacists, and then being an MP now, she has an onerous responsibility to tackle this issue. I can help her a lot to promote an Anti-Villification Law in the country, similar to that in many European countries designed to curb ethnocentric expressions.

All the arguments being made could have been made 8 or 4 years ago. But strangely enough she did not see the need to do that at that time, because the inactions of the leadership at the time served her interest.
Those who are critical of her piece are doing so on the grounds that she sounds like she just returned from 30 year visit to an Afghanistan cave only to find out that Ghana is heading in the wrong direction. As if all of these problems started only after NPP took over power.
No one should get me wrong, I am furious and angry at NPP and particularly Nana Addo for his inaction, and clear support for vigitantism in the country. The lawlessness taking place on his watch flies in the face of all his talks about rule of law. Both NPP and NDC are letting Ghana down.

The people who are indirectly fanning the flame of violence in Ghana at the moment think that if war breaks out, they will be spared. Not so. There will be no winners and no losers. Dr Rawlings was very careful not to mention any party's name. But we all know that we are talking about the NPP. They have been like this from tete. They think they are a law unto themselves and do not recognise or respect any of our institutions. As Dr Rawlings has so eloquently stated, we must all abide by the law and be mindful of the Rule of Law in everything we do. Otherwise, we are heading towards mayhen Rwanda-style.

In short, the symptoms of democratic turbulence that we are experiencing, would have been arrested by now through stronger institutions, if the process had not been destroyed by your dad in those early years!
