Lol! I dont see things changing in Ghana anytime soon. By nature we are a very docile people, abhor criticism and always on the lookout for shortcuts to success in life hence the mess and bad customer service in both the public/private sector. This is the mindset with which we basically approach everything in life so you can imagine the outcome on a national level. Complete chaos!

A reading of world history shows that it took many generations to train workers to return to work after pay on Friday, to be on time, to understand that their jobs are guaranteed only to the extent that the company remains profitable.
We also have examples of "professional" work that had to be done, over, and over again --- including plumbing and masonry.
And professionals who do not understand that written agreements, including receipt for payments, are necessary for business.
But, as a business owner, one paying the bills, one can make a difference: in pay, in training, in work conditions, etc.
Who leads whom, as supervisor?
If there is theft, these days owners can install cameras, also good for security.
Before you employ have all employees sign a proper conduct contract, and give them copies, even if they "signed" with thump prints.
Peace!

Are you paying them a living wage? Something you know they can live on . Are you supervising them . If you have lived abroad you know that those are the essentials of any work place. Supervision and a good wage. Most people will work hard if they are well paid . That is human nature. Poorly paid workers like most Ghanaians deliver poor work.No one wants to

Understand the point he's getting across. Ghanaians dont deserve to earn well since they by nature are very corrupt, incompetent and very unprofessional.

The state is on the same side as the employees against the employer – to steal constantly, attack the employer (business), be represented at funerals, arrive late or not at all on transactions, ignore contracts and and finally, to arrogantly chip away the startup assets of the employer. And so the state has abandoned all it´s legal right to prosecute the employee in favour of the employer because both the state and employees have merged subconsciously and have became the same entity – to chip away the capital of the any employer (private business or state enterprise). And both will not stop until the employer gives up (ie packs up and leaves). It would appear in the final stages that everybody has lost but that might be a deception ! The employees always turn out appear ok and in most cases, even richer than before in this strange place. BUT the employer always loses the business and with it, the startup loans, personal assets and in their place gains huge debts – it´s a bizarre case case of equalisation!!! Good luck

Every word of the article is 100 percent true.We have to inculcate the importance of hard work, honesty, punctuality, respect and readiness to learn from anybody into our youth.I just cannot understand why Ghanaians are annoyed when one says our workforce is lazy. Why is it that foreign contractors achieve their objectives faster than our own? There is too much complain about meager salaries etc. We just have to learn to work hard like other nations and we shall be surprised how fast we can realise our dreams.

The answer to your question is big no! Why would they want to and know how to work and work hard? They have it made and belief their silly sayings that goes "God will provide". How a lazy culture full of get quick rich schemes learn how to work hard and earn an honest living? Just take a look at they so called educational institutions, their traditional institutions, their Judiciary system, their Religious organizations and even their family structure. These should give you no hope in turning the Ghanaian and for that matter African around. I have traveled and conducted businesses in most African Countries and I'm afraid to tell you this in simple terms. There is no hope for the future. Majority of the people are extremely lazy and dishonest. If high level professionals such as Lawyers, Doctors, Academicians, Journalist, Engineers, Teachers, politicians etc are dishonest, coward and unethical, I'm afraid there is no hope.

Ghanaians are fast learners unfortunately from these wicked people who enter politics without a bicycle or plot of land only to be counted among the richest. ????????????????

Apam I side with you. Ghanaian democracy is wrong. since they were advertising and telling people that kabi Na minkabi. thats where they got it wrong. they don't use the opotunity to talk since. because they think democracy is to insult anybody and go free so maybe Democratic rulling is not for Africans. look at the way they use to insult the former president and even Nana and I think is all starting from above. they use some words like edebikeke all die be die disrespecting their political countaparts and create those problems. here you will here Zuma must go. but you can't just insult the President like they do in Ghana like the dwarf dead goat tanii. so we are embracing uncivilised democracy for real.

Much as I agree with all you said concerning the attitude of most Ghanaian workers,I think you were not totally objective as I expected since both us us agree that honesty and truth telling are 2 of the quality ingredients that are needed at the work place if Ghana is to develope like your Holland and other countries you want us aspire to.i personally know a big time female employer who spends big in church and pay her workers peanuts, not monthly but after every 4 to 5 months.you may also know as I know that a big time politician who contested the 2016 presidential elections and employs thousands of Ghanaians in his numerous companies got less than 1% of total votes casted.why didnt his employees, their spouses and familes and friends and dependants vote for him? this big shot notoriously pays his workers less than the average wage in the industry so the workers, being humans, whether Ghanians or Dutch could not understand why would he spend millions of Cedis on campaigns whilst they toil for him.I know of house maids who work like dogs and are treated like dogs by their Ghanaian madams .how about that? Good you run a guest house.my very first job as an employee was a manager of a hotel in Ghana here. Therefore I experienced all of the negative employee attitudes you have observed about the average Ghanaian worker.for the first 7 months,I practically slept at work because I was eager to impress only to overhear one faithful day,the proprietor and his wife had nick named me "too gyimi." for the non Ghanaian reading this peice, this is a Twi phrase which means that one is extremely stupid.in my instance, the proprietor did not understand why will I be willing to almost work myself to death hence the only explanation to it was that I was a stupid young man compared to his other workers.trust me that I resigned the following day without giving him my reasons why.I was begged to resind my decisions by him,his wife and children and by most of my co-workers for days on end but I never went back there.there is a management theory that states that if someone is in the position to hire and fire his employees keeps hiring and firing,he himself deserves to be fired. He has.Mr writer, the imput of this is that you are the very same person who recruits those you constantly fire.have you questioned your own judgements in the first place? One of your readers beautifully suggested that the universities should teach work ethics to their students.let me add to this suggestion that business men and women should equally be thought employment ethics.so the problem is both ways and until all Ghanians, from CEOs to messengersee and cleaners accept that we are all to blame,we will never ever get to where the Dutch or Chinese are.thanknow you very much
