He has forgotten that his (late) criminal father Kwawukume the thief and a criminal enriched himself from stealing at the TEMA habour as well as using his office to dupe Ghana of huge amount of Monies when he was in office some years back.
The insane Ewe, C.Y. Andy Kwawukume too is as well a criminal, who is supported by the NDC to carry on his criminal activities, doing British and US visa business to trafficing Ghanaians and Togolese to UK and USA.
The Akan and NPP hater has aslo written series of shit against Akan and the NPP.

Andy, your argument is solid, no matter how many come here to insult you for it.
I pick out this statement from your piece:
"English is therefore a measure of how well a person is educated in Ghana."
This is the unfortunate truth. Many people disagree with it either because of its unfortunate nature or because they do not understand the import. That English is a measure of how well a person is educated in Ghana is the result of the system that we have inherited from colonialism. That does not make the statement less true. The statement does not also mean that speaking and using good English is a desirable objective on its own or as an end in itself. It is just the means to achieve the goal that we actually desire.
People like Adofo do not understand the nuances of this argument. They do not understand it either because they are bigots or can really not understand things.
Yes, Twi is the biggest single language in Ghana today. Yes, more and more non-Akans are speaking it well or less so. But these are not sufficient and necessary reasons to adopt a purposeful policy to make it our official language.
Your other supporting points are solid and clear to anybody who is not a bigot!

Great insights indeed! These should lead us to a sensible language policy to address the quandary out there. Prof. Prah's cross-border recommendations are one of the best I have read.
We can also take a cue from Sa Leoneans' devt of Creole as a national language, with even a dictionary. The politicians should be seen speaking pidgin at Makola, Kejetia, Kotokoruba, etc. markets. This will address not only a national but a sub-continent problem when those with not much formal education or didn't attend school at all begin to speak at least pidgin English.
In the former Bendel State of Nigeria, pidgin has become the lingua franca even small pikins learn to speak as their mother tongue. The multiplicity of languages and dialects within even one town, e.g., Warri, no doubt was a major contributory factor.

This is just common sense; equating ones level of understanding English to literacy is the most stupid argument that I have ever heard. In the first place, I would say you are a total liability and a big embarrassment to your peers, and the entire Trokosi kingdom, especially to the traditional Trokosi rulers who cannot speak or write in English. Are you suggesting that those Chiefs are illiterates because they cannot express themselves in the queens language? It is totally absurd for you, a secret agent of the Trokosi Homeland Study Group, to tell Ghanaians what is good for us. I don't think you would have had this headache if Ewe, instead of Twi, was suggested to be national language. In any case, if you are smart as carry yourself to be, you could have realized that countries like India, Pakistan, Malaysia...are now super powers because they ignored the English language for the language they speak and understand best, their mother tongues, and it has paid off big time. Here is the case where you have indigenous English professors in Ghana who always walk around with their dictionaries. I hope you are getting my drift here. The case would be different for say, aTrokosi professor in Ewe. This is just common sense. Btw, i will always choose the kookoase type of English over the Trokosi one any day any time. When a typical Trokosiman pronounces the word "three" it resonates like a concord aircraft taking off at Abiekuta Airport in Ogun State, Nigeria.

However whether it's Adofo or Andy-K's side of the argument or not,the value is the same.they and the rest of us are all expressing ourselves in English, not Twi nor Ewe. let me provide everybody with some food for thought: if a Chinese firm wants to import Sushi from neighbouring Japan, the correspondence is done not in Japanese nor Chinese but in English.why?because world wide, English is the language of commerce.so if Twi or Ewe or Nzima or whatever Ghanian language we decide as the official language,we will still end up employing an army of English interpreters for every official transaction that has international implications.besides, can anyone tell me the names of spanner, social media, fridge, butter and spark plug in either Twi or ewe?

I wonder whether Adofo Rockson can identify the 2 languages listed below?
1: Ceist a' Cheannadaich mu bhòt a' Choimisein.
2:May i gadarnhau Bargen Ddinesig Abertawe.
The first is Scottish Gaelic and the Second is Welsh. I do not think Gordon Brown,Tony Blair,Logie Baird,Fleming or Graham Bell would have conquered the world with Scottish Gaelic. Neither would have Kofi Anan ruled the world through the United Nations with Fante Twi.
Andy you are spot on! the vast majority of twi radio presenters do not know the difference between River/Stream[Asuo],Water[Nsuo] and Rain[Osuo]. Otherwise they will not keep saying "Nsuo eto" instead of "Osuo eto".They are not literate in twi either!
The vast majority of Akans in the Ivory Coast who speak Bauole or Agni can easily communicate with their Akan counterparts in Ghana who tend to speak Brong,Wassa,Nzema,Aowin,Ahanta and Sefwi. That makes these languages/dialects international.Just as Ewe is spoken in Togo,Benin and some parts of Nigeria.
The wider world would not have heard of Oscar Wilde,Chinua Achebe,Bernard Shaw,Wole Soyinka,Ama Ata Aidoo or Chimanda Ngozi if they had written in their various tongues. That said, I will always speak twi but I will constantly strive to improve upon my English in order to reach the wider world.
I will leave you with this dazzling wit and repartee exhibited by a former Indian diplomat VKK Menon to an arrogant British author in the 50s.
In London, Menon responded to novelist Brigid Brophy's surprise at the quality of his English with the retort: "my English is better than yours. You merely picked it up: I learnt it."

In the first place, his objection to what I wrote was his apparent misunderstanding of the figure of speech "...it is Greek to them". From that, he went on to assign some wrong deductions from his mind to me.
I observed that he has some knowledge classical knowledge of Greek civilisation but not aware of Martin Bernal's epoch-making Vols. I had gone beyond the Herodotus, Thucydides, Livy, Plato, etc. of my Legon Ancient History FUE and figured out that something was wrong before hearing of Martin Bernal. One Prof. in the US created a website where, with my permission, he put one of my few contributions to the HarperCollins arranged debate b/n Profs. Bernal and Mary Lefkowitz, author of "Not Out of Africa." Clearly, this Mr Bond is stuck in the C19th classisist view of world history.

In one part of your writeup you state clearly: "...And some want interpreters to be employed for her, thus adding to the bloated cost of running Parliament". This I assume you are in agreement with. But then elsewhere you negate the previous statement by stating: "It is simply arrogant, crude and insensitive for government officials and TV and radio presenters at national functions to speak in Twi without the benefit of interpretation to non-Twi speakers". You have demonstrated that you are against something when it doesn't suit you but all for it when it favours you. It is next to impossible to get interpreters for all non-Twi languages in Ghana for someone talking on air or at an event. Twi should be made the second official language after English and must be taught in all schools, we simply don't have the time or the wherewithal to be teaching every language or interpreting every language wherever there is a gathering. From what is being said about this writer it is obvious that he will stop at nothing to prevent Twi becoming an official language of the country. I'd like to know what he thinks of Ewe becoming the official language.

C'mmon, what's that silly question about choosing Ewe as official language? I won't stand any such nonsense, you must know. I had had enough problems with Ewe already, being my fate that I started speaking it with a "Hausa" accent when we're at Damongo. My stomach still constrict when I recollect the teasings and taunts we're subjected to by adults and kids alike when we were taken to Anloga.
I have been nursing this idea of sponsoring an NGO called "Mother Tongue" to promote the learning of local languages by kids who find themselves in the cities away from their native areas. A major task will be to educate adults to stop teasing kids which are learning their own languages away from home or other languages. It affected my immediate snr brother and I so badly that we refused to learn any other Ghanaian language. Our mother couldn't understand that.

No, Twi should not be anything official - second, third or what. It's good if more and more people speak Twi but that doesn't mean it should be made official. Twi is already taught in schools where Twi is the main language. Non-Akans who want to study Twi academically can do so of their freewill just like someone opts to study French. If they feel strongly about it, they can move to a school where it is taught. There shall be no need to force anybody to study any language apart from English.
The bottom line is that it will be a retrograde step to supplant English with any other language.

Kwesi,
First, when did I ever say that I am incapable of descending into the mud-pit to cast some mud at the swines therein? I too love a mud bath occasionally. It is therapeutic. Try it!:-)
Secondly, did you read what that jerk calling himself Dr Otto and his ilk wrote about me, my father and whole Kwawukume family? The archival records will show you that a Kwawukume was the first unofficial member from the Eastern Province appointed into the LegCo in 1916 by the British. One of his grandsons had just founded the first private medical school in Ghana. All the past presidents were there to cut the sod with then President Mahama. That we had chosen a low key life was a conscious decision of the family since the 1950s, but I have been trying to wake them from their complacent and comfortable life style while things burn around us.
Do you think I should just let such uncouth minions from the Akan ethnic group go haywire and be insulting us and the memories of even our long departed dear ones by heart like that, without any responses from us? And it was even going on in Ghana in the '90s.
In the early '93 or so, Kofi Koomson, editor of The Chronicle, devoted a centre spread to insulting the Tsikatas, calling the long deceased mother of Kojo an illiterate and worse. And that woman was one of the first most accomplished Gold Coast educationists, rising to head the Catholic mission school in Keta, which is now OLA Sec. Schl in Ho. I don't know whether she was the head when Kufuor's wife also attended that school in Keta then. When I asked why no one bothers to respond to such wholesale insults of Ewes in the media then, I was told that trite maxim of not following mad men who picked your pioto while you are in the bath house. I had since written that I had broken that taboo, since I had found a way to deal with the mad men, just like the Anloga man who dealt with the mad man of Tegbi who raped and killed the pregnant wife.
Thirdly, insults have a place in societal control. There are certain behavioural types that incur certain epithets. If someone exhibits it, calling the person so is simply describing an obnoxious thing done. I can write a whole thesis on this, starting from my own Anlo society where an insult Festival actually existed, just as in other societies in Africa, e.g., among the Ibos. Torgbui Sri II, the first E/P unofficial member of the LegCO, banned that of Anlo due the resultant negative fall outs getting out of hand. the gas still have it, the Laakpa or so, which landed Bukom Banku in jail for beating up some people who composed songs against the fetish priest wife.
In the '80s I listened to a BBC coverage of such insults in politics in Brazil, with the denizens of one of the favelas singing to what was unmistakably a konkoma beat:
The Mayor is a donkey
The Police Chief an ass...
You got the drift?
The problem on Ghanaweb and in Ghana which led the late Komla Dumor to run the infamous "Ayigbe Jokes" series on MyJoy is that we get only unprovoked, unjust and uncouth insults without any sense or truth in them. That's what people like me detest and people like you should be frowning upon and trying to curb, instead of trying to hold back someone like me who wants to deal with them.
I don't understand what you mean by "strong Ewe sentiments". In fact, as a grown up child, I even thought I was a Northerner, as some wicked adults in Anloga had managed to convince us so. It is a long story.
Btw, linguists don't even recognise the word "Ewe" any longer as referring to all the groups previously recognised as such, being speakers of a similar language. The new word you'd find in new books is "Gbe", meaning language. Your concept of "Ewe sentiments" is therefore nebulous to me.

Thank you, Andy, for your beautiful, well-thought of and highly educational rejoinder. Let me point out up front that I am one of those who will do everything in my own small way to vehemently resist the strenuous efforts some Akans are making these days to impose the Twi language on the rest of us Ghanaians, efforts driven by the erroneous belief that they the Akans constitute the majority of Ghana's population and therefore Ghana must adopt the Twi language as its lingua franca. Among the educated who promote this false view of Akans being in the majority is one of the greatest ethnocentic columnists on Ghanaweb.com, Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, who once falsely claimed that Akans constituted 50% of the Ghanaian population.
The simple truth of the matter is that the Akans still constitute only 44% of Ghana's population and not 47% or 47 1/2%. It is when the Nzema population is added to that of the Akans that that population has risen to 47% or 47 1/2%. This is more political by those who are trying to swell the Akan stat so that they can claim they are in the majority, their agenda being to justify their agitation for adopting Twi as Ghana's official language. But the Nzemas are not Akans! This is the historical fact.
I am by no means against the Twi language; I wish I can understand and speak it too, or any other Ghanaian language, for that matter. but I am not there yet. What I find frustrating is when I tune to even national TV and radio and Twi is spoken with no attempt whatsoever to translate into English what is being said. Indeed, this is a demonstration of ethnocentric pride and arrogance on the part of those Akans who do this. Those people must understand that English is still Ghana's official language and not Twi. It is false to claim that the majority of Ghanaians speak Twi. After all, where is the statistic that proves this? It is insulting when even the Akan educated come on national TV and radio and speak Twi without thinking about non-Twi speakers like me. They should understand that the more they attempt to impose Twi on the rest of the Ghanaian population by force, the more we will resent and resist it. If they continue the practice, we shall be forced to combat them at the law courts.
