It is very disheartening that certain folks with high intellectual prowess cannot discern how appropriately to invoke the "Separation of Religion from Politics" Constitutional requirement.
The fact that we have a secular Government, and Religion is supposed to be the individual's private matter that should not be publicly displayed to inconvenience others, or to impose a parochial view on the Nation, Society, or the Community, the mere citing of one's faith as an inspiration to do good does not breach the Constitutional requirement.
It is only when the introduction of Religious concepts into secular matters of the State harms others or the State that the requirement ought to be invoked.
The freedom to practice one's Religion includes expressing one's faith to promote the general good of all. The idea of Religious tolerance also includes such incidents as Ken exhibited to which folks of other Religious Faiths present could not take exceptions.
I would expect that had the Finance Minister been a Moslim, for instance, and had mentioned how in honor of Allah, a certain policy action ought to be implemented in all fairness and honesty, such a reference to Allah would not be in breach of the same "Separation of Religion and State" Constitutional requirement.
So, we must be wise enough to know how to tolerate our various legally acceptable Religions. In that sense, I fault Pratt for his failure to honor that expectation of Religious tolerance. His comment was uncalled for. Ken's comment did not harm anyone of a different Faith, nor did it hurt the State's ultimate goal.

Just last week Mr Pratt said on peace fm kokrokoo show hosted by chairman general Sefa Kai that it's so embarrassing that Ghana is using 99.6 percent of its revenue to pay salaries, statutory payments and interest payments. It is with heavy hearts that National service personnel nationwide threaten to abandon their posts by Friday March 24th 2017. Over the years, NSPs have cried out their plights to government after government yet none seems to be concerned.
The ways and manner in which matters pertaining to national service are handled in our country shows absolutely no respect for the graduates from our prestigious universities and colleges. In January 2016, the executives of the national service personnel association (NASPA) embarked on a peaceful negotiation with the then NDC government to increase allowances given to personnel.
The last time the scheme saw an increment in allowances of personnel dates as far back as December 2013. From which time, civil servants have seen a salary raise of not less than 12%, students loan have been increased, nursing and teacher trainees allowances have been restored and have received an upward increment and parliament received an increment in salaries from GHS7200 to GHS13000+. This being said, it is appalling and humiliating that NSPs should go through this show of neglect from government.
When the past NDC administration made a call to increase NSP allowance by 60% making it equivalent to 40% of graduate entry level salary under the single spine Salary structure, Personnel nationwide responded with delight yet this joy however, has vanished thanks to our authorities and the media for politicizing every single policy or decision made in this country.
Many have forgotten that personnel have to report to work daily, some of whom have been posted from faraway lands into rural communities in the name of service to the country. The least said about the struggles personnel go through to meet their bills, transport and meals a day, the better.
If the new administration cannot satisfy demands of the NSPs, it can dissolve the scheme. This will even ease up the stress of seeking for jobs after service and free graduates of private institutions of this humiliating bondage.
We are seriously angered by the way the current administration is handling the matters of our allowance increment and the meek and silent NSPs must act now for we have been taken for granted for long. It is only appropriate that even if government cannot satisfy the needs of the about 72000 personnel nationwide, they communicate It to us. Yet personnel are left in a dilemma of their own with authorities paying no attention.
We are hereby calling on all NSPs nationwide to adhere to the NASPA communique and abandon their posts by Friday, March 24th 2017 if no proper communique is released by government stating clearly whether or not it will pay the increased allowance of GHS559.
Better still, the scheme can be abolished if government Is unwilling to make it the least appealing and lucrative for graduates.
