Is the otumfour God. The article was not about one chief but the chiefs in Ghana who try to usurp the power of the state and why they need to be controlled. Nana otumfour may be an icon to you but he's iconic in depicting the foul abuse of state authority. His statement that no court in Ghana can overturn his decisions when presidents in Ghana do have their decisions overturned shows a level of arrogance which really needs to curtailed. This is fuelled by people who do not think but simply venerate the man because in their eyes he can do no wrong.

The British Imperial Administration ruled Ghana
mostly through our Kings and their chiefs. Even
they went on to institute police force for them,
alongside the government police force. The
kings and chiefs could impose some taxes for
their local development. There local courts
to arbitrate lesser cases. Kings and their chiefs
could organize community works such making
gutter to check erosions, repairing streets, roads,
keeping vigilante groups to patrol their
towns and villages. The system worked very
much. There were no much crimes. People feared
to commit adultery more than today. Kings
and their chiefs made the system worked well.
People lived longer and life was better. This
local governance was the good age for Ghana.
And so Mr Writer, if more power can be invested
in our kings and their chiefs we could witness
a tremendous change in ghanaians lives for the
better. When chiefs involve in our administration
drug addition in our towns and cities will
subside , so as other crimes like robbery etc,
because chiefs will send their men to effect
arrests, other than police who need to be appeased
before doing so.Kings and their chiefs played
major role in BRITISH INDIRECT RULE in GHANA,
and any place they adopted this system.

Obrenpon You are right about certain things but time has changed and besides, those kings cared about their subjects and protected what our ancestors left behind. Today we have so many greedy and ungodly king who sell off their inheritance and in the name of our current Asantehene, he is so corrupt, evil and ugly. He has created more confusion in Asanteman than he has solved. No disregards to our tradition but do as he wishes. I can only say something about this do-no-good Asantehene because I am an Asante, I am sure other Tribes have similar issues.

I am floored and in fact bemused by Adofo's ignorance of Ghana's political history. Is Adofo an empty barrel who is always making noise on this social media? You would think a person of Adofo's intelligence would know the difference between a Republic state and a Constitutional Monarchy. Britain is a Constitutional Monarchy and it's reason why it has the Queen as a head of state, and Ghana is a Democratic Republic - a state where power resides in citizens and expressed in their elected representatives.
What does Ghana's Constitution say; our Constitution says Ghana is a Republic, and do you know why Ghana became a Republic? It is because on April 27, 1960 there was a Constitutional Referendum where citizens of Ghana were asked to vote 'yes' for a Republic with a presidential system of government, and 'no' to a constitutional monarchy with Elizabeth II as head of state. There were 2,098,651 registered voters for the referendum and the 'yes' won 88.47% of the vote as against 11.53% of 'no' side. On July 1, 1960 and as a result of the overwhelming 'yes' vote, Ghana was declared a Republican state.
There are buffoons and complete idiots in the media who refer to the paramount chief of Ashanti Region as King and Ashanti Region as kingdom. Ghana's Constitution aptly refers to Ashanti Region as region, not kingdom and Asentehene as paramount chief just like Okyehene and Akwamuhene. You idiots are fomenting trouble by designating unfounded titles to these parasitic chiefs in lieu of the dictates of our Constitution. If the country has to go to war to settle this stupidity and ignorance so be it.
But I am truly disappointed in you, Adofo. I thought you knew better. You are like all of them. So sad!!!

Cool it down Richard, l understand your frustration. The Asante hene is definitely above the paramount chief status. I am saying this because l did a research on this issue recently and l found out that, the framers of our first constitution, in 1956 if l am right with the year, gave the Asantehene some autonomy which gives him the power to appoint a paramount chief throughout the Ashanti Kingdom i.e. The members of the former Ashanti Confederation and these states spread throughout most of the regions in Ghana and some parts of the eastern lvorian territories . Somehow the Nkrumah administration tried to limit the authority of the Asantehene and that explains why he created the first nine regions and separated the Ashanti from the Ahafo districts which are supposed to be part of the Ashanti Region. So to me Adofo was right by calling Ghana a constitutional Monarchy however l know Adofo doesn't seem to get along with the King for reasons definitely known to himself.

Nkrumah could not have done anything with regards to the Constitution without the support of Ghana Parliament, i.e. the peoples' representatives. It is not Nkrumah who created the regions, it is Parliament of Ghana guided by the tenets of the Constitution that created the region. Ignorance is truly bliss indeed.

Actually, I believe in one ghana and unity. Because I have been saying that United States of America is great because of oneness. In as much as we are all calling for unity does not mean we should distort the fact. My point is His Majesty is the king of Asante's not the other tribe, so we the people see him as such King.we don't expect recognition from anyone or any written documents before we called our leader as king. He is a King and chiefs are under him.A chief don't pay allegiance to a chief but rather pays allegiance to a King. This is what the British tried to do after they defeated the Ashanti's in Yaa Asantewaa war which they succeeded in someway by limiting Otumfou's Powers to certain limit . But after the return of Otumfou Premper 1 from Seychelles and reinstitute of Asante confederacy, Otumfou gain that power as a king which he is recognized as king all over the world .Even international media recognized him as king.even though it's important for such recognition from international media and world political leaders but we the people of Asante's don't rely on these recognition before we called His Majesty a King.

Respect for Ghana's constitution is paramount if you want to call yourself a Ghanaian. Ghana's constitution is the law regardless of its imperfections - you must by all means respect it. I will have no problem accepting Ashanti Region as a Kingdom and Asantehene as King if Ghana's Constitution says so because I am a law abiding citizen. I believe you are law abiding too as a Ghanaian citizen. If you do not like the Constitution, get in touch with your constituent representative in Parliament and register your discontentment and suggest ways the Constitution can meet the needs of the people. This is how we do things in a Democratic Republic Ghana. Try it brother.

Rockson Adofo amuses me with his open display of emotinal ineptitude. He would do himself a great favour by learning the difference between fear and respect. Secondly, in his quest for cheap popularity, he must learn to pick his targets carefully. Too little knowledge is dangerous. The history of leadership in Ghana did not start with the creation of the republic of Ghana. A little understanding of the journey from the self through family, tribe, communities, .. to the current state should help Adofo. If that does not suffice, he may seek the help of his elders or expand the scope of his reading.

Lets call a spade a spade for Christ sake.
The writer is more than right when he says "Ghana is not an Absolute Monarchy but somewhat a Constitutional Monarchy"
Those Corrupt Chiefs should mind their own affairs and leave the government and the presidents alone to concentrate..
Mr. Writer, be proud of yourself for you have said what is right...
The fools will not bare with you because we live in a country where we dislike people who comes out to speak the truth and the facts..
The worse is when you throw light on the corrupt ones in the dark...they have no opinions left than to come and attack you for exposing them..
Good work done.
