Prof Lungu must stop wasting our ears. Every sane Ghanaians knows that successive governments after Dictator Nkrumah have done their best to get more people enroll in our schools. Facts available, which need no proof, show that more people are increasingly graduating from our Universities (both public and private, not to mention the polytechnic turned Technical Unversities) now than any point in time in the history of our beloved country, Ghana. The undeniable truth is tha Fuhrer Nkrumah, the brutal dictator, died with his CPP as Allotey Jacobs, a one time dyed in the wool Nkrumahist, aptly observed sometime ago. The Gold Coast policies of Nkrumah, for the then young nation of measurably 5-million people, is irrelevant in today's Ghana of some 26 or thereabout million people. Ghana is moving forward, and I'm very optimistic that the nation will definitely see a considerable improvement under the NPP. Ghanaians made the right choice when they dump the incompetent Smock ( fugu or batakari) for the beautiful Kente cloth in the last general elections. Lungu and the naysayers can continue wallow in the slur of mediocrity, and mourn the ghost of Nkrumah, some of us are ready to put our shoulders on the wheel to help Ghana succeed.

Stop your lying! The notorious and backward NLC, advised by the reactionary Busia, halted the rapid educational policy of the Nkrumah regime. School building at various stages of completion to accommodate the increased enrolment and stop the shift system were abandoned all over the country. Same happened in my primary school and that has been the situation up to date. I was there last Oct. and the PTA had managed to construct the B stream block but they are roofless.
Free basic education had just been extended to the whole country and enrolment was nearly 100% In my neighbourhood in Anloga, there was only one person who was refusing to go to school, for obvious reasons. He was one of two sons a very poor single mother and, at primary school level, they had to be fending for themselves. He therefore used to play truant in order to go find food to eat, stealing coconut, etc. to survive on. In stepped the NLC and Busia and free and compulsory education was declared as dictatorial, Busia declared that it was bad for agric, as those who went to school didn't want to work on the farm again! Overnight, not going to school became a democratic thing! That's how Ghana became a nation of illiterates and semi-illiterates, with even Congo under Mobutu chalking a higher literacy level by the '80s and still lead Ghana in UNDP HDI data. A Congo which didn't have a single graduate when they gained independence!

, but are spending their time on Twitter & Facebook, wasting precious time on social media. Would advice my fellow countrymen & women to read The Life & Work of Kwame Nkrumah, edited by Kwame Arhin, especially, the paper by E. A. Haizel, "Education in Ghana, 1951 - 1966".
On the occasion of opening of the Lever Brother Soap Factory at Tema on 24th August, 1963, Dr Nkrumah, said among other things . "...The education policy inaugurated by the CPP in 1951, when for the first time we had a limited degree of control over our own affairs is now bearing fruits."
With the Accelerated Development Plan for Education. 1951 sought to provide primary school children a six year primary course in the basic skills of reading. Writing & arithmetic for everyday life as Nkrumah said "to provide a sound foundation for citizenship with permanent literacy in both English and the vernacular".
When Dr Nkrumah presented the Seven-Year Development Plan for National Reconstruction & Development to parliament in 1964, as Haizel put it, "The link between education and economic development was clearly stated".
What I find remarkable about Nkrumah's eagerness to see Ghana developed was the action he took in connection with technical training under the Artisan Training Scheme.
He sent a total of 107 artisans & tradesmen to the UK under the scheme in 1952.

- 13 Electricians
- 6 Carpenters
-6 Blacksmiths
- 7 Printers
Etc.
I really do wonder what became of these Gold Coasters?
It is the duty of all of us to see to it that our nation Ghana has a restructured education system that LINKS EDUCATION TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
The leadership must come from the President Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo & his administration.
