The issue is simple.
NPP promised to restore the allawa rain or shine so we voted for them.
Either they pay it now or we vote them out.
Period!!!!

Teacher trainees in the universities also pay fees. They have the option to pay cash or go for a student loan facility. All polytechnic students used to pay fees or go for loans to do so. Now teacher trainees in the colleges were given the opportunity to access the students loan facility but they preferred allowances. The irony is that these lazy chaps could not critically analyze and compare the two options. With the alawa a student is given Ghc 450 a term or Ghc1,350 a year. This is woefully inadequate by all standards and parents would be forced to complement. With the loan a student can take a minimum of Ghc1,250 cedis a term or an equivalent of the fees per term. A clever student would go for the amount for a full term fee so that parents can provide just some pocket money. By this arrangement payment of fees is guaranteed throughout the academic year. Payment of the loan is very gradual and is deducted from the beneficiaries' salaries when they begin working. The scheme also ensures that students are registered with the SSNIT even when they are students. This ensures that their SSNIT deductions would serve as collateral for the loans.
Sooner than later students will go for the loans rather than the peanuts being offered as allowance.
