The problem with NDC is it lost its socialist label and has embraced capitalism. Ironically, the NPP rather has introduced many social interventions (NHIS, school feeding, SADA etc) over the years to help the less privilege, while NDC has become the nouveau riche/bourgeoisie who have focused on the top 2% of the population. NDC built airports, flyovers, hospitals (not affordable to the poor), bought V8s etc., which technically support the lifestyles of the "rich and famous".
The Zongo and urban development is another example of raising the standards of the kayayeis and the down trodden which is long overdue. It is not about wining elections it is doing what it right! I agree though that if NPP is successful in that area it is going to sway some of the NDC supporters to their side, but I hope that is not the reason for reaching out to the less privilege in our society.

Don't take this the wrong way but the creation of a ministry is not a solution to crises in the Zongo communities but a Trojan horse for abuse and misuse of money period.

Don't take this the wrong way but the creation of a ministry is not a solution to crises in the Zongo communities but a Trojan horse for abuse and misuse of money period.
As voters, we replace governments or political party in power precisely because they failed to perform to expectations at the district, regional and national level. Yet there is not a district or region that is not covered by the long arm of local government executive or regional chief executive post which did not come riding in US $70,000+ Toyota Prado or equivalent. The last time I checked the Zongo communities are enclaves in districts or regional demarcations. Creating a Zongo ministry only ensures that in each of Ghana's metropolitan communities we have yet another government position with staff and government vehicles to drive around and salaries to boot. In the meantime the two most important issues affecting the Zongo communities are accommodation or housing and employment. The last time I checked Ghana has had housing shortage since Adam and Eve and the youth population of the uneducated and undereducated are mostly unemployed. Was the Kufour era NYEP/GYEEDA or YEA not the Agency vested with the responsibility of youth retraining and employment?
On the other hand if creating new ministries for specific areas of past failures is the way to go then why not create ministry of toilets and urinals? How about ministry of dumsor to solve electricity problems? There are government agencies already tasked with those issues but they failed us; the solution is not a mere expansion of government but an issue of competent staffing at all of the existing agencies. It may be a stroke of genius for the NPP to tap into the Zongo voting block but simply put a waste and abuse of goverment resources or a vote buying scheme that is beneath the dignity of our presumed intelligent administration
