Your piece is interesting. The year 2016 is the year for NPP after NDC's 8 years of rule. This is what Mahama failed to understand. More so, the people were tired of the NDC policies which were not yielding anything positive. NDC's defeat wouldn't have been so overwhelming if they had adopted certain strategies. For example, they brought many negative things on themselves because of poor leadership. The government failed to stabilize the cedi against the foreign currencies. The managers of the economy did a poor job of not creating the environment for job creation. On the social front, special radio stations were set up to denigrate senior public officials including chiefs unsympathetic to NDC. The national health insurance scheme began by Kuffuor was allowed to collapse. Government projects were overpriced so people saw through the extent of thievery going on. Several of Mahama's ministers or deputy ministers were completely incompetent. How can you appoint someone who claims to use the position he occupied as a dinning hall prefect as an experience fit for the post of a deputy minister? The defeat could have been averted or minimized if president Mahama showed leadership!

The election results shows more and more people are becoming enlightened. Electorate are now moving away from hailing physical infrastructure such as roads to searching for policies which have long term effect on the economy. Every government builds something including the juntas so its no longer a catchy achievement. If the npp is able to construct just 10 functional factories, the effect on the economy will be positively massive. Physical infrastructure are good but what we need now is income generating policies.
Nice write up though

You can place the right and the keeper catch it, even your best player can get injured which will or effect the out come or player getting red card. Politics is a totally different contest. You engage with the people. You can compare politics with trying to get a girl or a boy. Whether you're ugly or handsome it doesn't matter. POLITICS IS ABOUT CONVINCING, SHOWING THAT YOU CARE EVEN THOUGH YOU MAY NOT CARE AT ALL. You got to let the people feel you re w one of them, even they sound stupid you gotto feel their sorrow and NEVER INSULT THEM. Please don't post thing you don't know.

Lousy article. Poor logic. NDC is a corrupt organization. From 31st December 1981, it has been a vehicle for making a few greedy misfits rich at the expense of everyone else. NDC is finished. It will never come to power again. Rawlings will soon take it over and try to hand it over to his daughter. The criminal party, NDC, will self-destruct in the process. Good riddance to a criminal organisation which should never have been allowed in Ghana's political space. God bless Ghana

"Don't worry , be happy". Wait for your turn .? Your thoughts remind me of a thought provoking response to a question in a philosophy class I took in when I was in university. The question was why does the ostrich hide its head in the sand when it see threats in its environment? His answer " when people can't fathom issues in their lives or environment, they go hide leaving everything to fate or the will of God"? And as luck has it the ostrich usually becomes someone's dinner. The class we into a hilarious laughter , The the Ptofessor went the blackboard and wrote something that looked like a mathematical equation and asked for a class response. The brave and those who thought were smart offered answers which were wrong. Then a shy Chinese student at the back asked " what is the problem"? Then the professor shouted in excitement, yes if we don't Know the problem, we can't answer it? Life events are symptoms of problems begging for answers. "How we think is everything" he said. It is the lazy and simple minded people who resort to fate or God's will for answers after a negative event.
Leadership in the sphere of governance is extremely important. Mr Alhassan, take time to research for the key attribute of leaders in mass movements. It is not about looks, youth, charisma or vulgar utterances. In fact some acknowledged great leader had character defects and some were known to be very wicked.
It is all about vision and how the leader and his team effect that vision to make a fundamental difference in people's lives ( food, shelter, clothing) health and education. And in our modern life it is about personal income ( jobs and wealth creating activities ) and self worth. People don't want to be serfs of a benevolent? For the arrogant rich the Akans have a saying: " fa wo sika fi ko" people who borrow money to build a house are disrespected. That is why sudden wealth is tagged with cocaine peddling. Wealth creation through legitimate endervours is respected.
Governance must first be about creating a vibrant economy as an environment for work and self worth .
To understand why citizens of Ghana showed John Dramani Mahama and his NDC the "Red Card" , for an embarrassing electoral defeat,
Please to refer to the late Obestebi Lamptey's observations about John D. Mahama as a leader prior to the 2012 elections. His insight has been confirmed. A leader who does not understand the fundamental priority of the economy as critical to The citizenry and would rather focus on the development strategy that he himself thought is normal and expected is either clueless or is a leader without vision or understanding of the expectations of citizens needs. The character defects of his team as manifested by bloated cost infrastructure projects and scandals that were not vigorously sanctioned and the impunity of exhibition of wealth by the politically connected branded JDM and his party as "yebe dii k3k3" government !
It seemed under JD Mahana's watch the nation's treasury became the fodder for the Party in power to enrich the powerful and the greedy.
Mr. Alhassan, "Fate " has nothing to do with the embarrassing loss of JDM and the NDC. Heaven helps those who helps them self. JDM and the NDC failed at the 2016 Polls because of a flawed MINDSET about what is important in governance. Period!!!

Politics and elections are very different from football games. The fact is that the party that wins an election is the party that comes closest to addressing the real concerns of the voters. Clearly, Mahama and the NDC failed miserably. They touted the achievements in infrastructure development (achieved at grotesquely inflated costs) while the concerns of the voters revolved around the high cost of living, dumsor, and corruption. These are issues that the NPP addresses very well.

Your article seems quite interesting but it seems people have different opinions as to how and why the NDC lost so do I have mine too. in my kindly opinion there's never been any difference between the results of the 2012 elections and that of now. The only difference I see here is that there was too much complecency on the part of the NPP in the 2012 elections. Meaning they were not very smart and vigilant. Trust me, Ghanaians voted massively for them. NDC were so smart to turn the results to their favour courtesy Dr. Afari Gyan hence the challenge in court but it was too late. Remember this phrase in the court room 'elections are won in the pooling station.' So this time around they were fully prepared for any challenges relating to rigging. And the NDC were so confident they could do it again. Remember Mahama used to say 'we have already won but I want you to vote massively so we can beat them by more than 60% so they can't go to court this time.' So they ( NDC) were so sure and so relaxed that when their plans for rigging failed they had no plan 'B'. So dear readers in my opinion the results were the same it's only that they managed to manipulate that of the 2012 and did succeed same this time around.

The analysis and comparisons are vague. John Mahama in 2012 performed poorly given the fact that he had been Vice President for many years. He was proclaimed as a communication expert but frankly I think that accolade only works when he is at home. He could not master the leadership of the party, could not create or innovate the communication messages and style. His words lacked wisdom at times for instance when he refers to himself as Adele goat. Like Limann he appeared to lack a sense of direction. Some will say he was clueless and allowed the small boys to dictate the course of his presidency. I am a-political but even I can see that for the spread of democracy RAwlings would have overthrown his government in the first few months like he did to Limann. I guess only those who benefitted from his rule are doing the shouting now. Managing a country is no football game hence this has nothing to do with football managers and tactics. I support Franklin Cudjoe when he said the NDC is short of intelligent intellectuals who are capable of productive ideas and debate. The lessons for the Ndc to learn would not be if they had won the elections but what they can do to make the party attractive and electable in the future. Thank you.

Your piece is good; however, it lacks some truth. The comparisons of the main idea with foitball and politice, yes indeed, go hand in hand. On the other hand, unless we accept the fact that 2012 ELECTION was not genuinely won by NDC, any comparisons wouldn't fit the argument. Just accept it that the NDC government won by stealing votes. Therefore it is simple. Their 2012 strategy didn't work and it still didn't work in 2016. NDC needs to come out with a better strategy, which to me, they have none so far.
